Current and Voltage instrument transformers are used to convert high currents or voltages in the primary circuit to a suitable level for secondary circuit equipment (relays and meters). They also provide insulation between the primary and secondary circuits, protecting secondary equipment from the harmful effects of large currents or voltages during operation, such as short circuits.
