The Orion1 Extended light curtains are Type 4 intrinsic safety systems used as accident-prevention protection devices. They generate infrared beams and detect any opaque object interrupting a beam. The device consists of a transmitter and a receiver. When beams are interrupted, the OSSD outputs switch off, blocking the machine's primary control element.
Ensure the AOPD is correctly positioned to cover all access points to the hazard zone. Use matched pairs, ensure correct alignment, and connect cables properly. Perform checks after installation before machine start-up.
Key functions include Reset (Automatic/Manual), Test, Acknowledge, EDM (External Device Monitoring), Range Reduction, Muting, Override, and Blanking. These functions help manage safety and operational needs.
Regular checks are recommended to ensure the AOPD remains functional and safe. This includes checking alignment, OSSD outputs, stopping times, and immunity to external light sources. Cleaning the protective surfaces is also important for maintaining operating distance.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| General Troubleshooting | ||
| Device not powering ON | No power supply | Check power supply connections and voltage. |
| OSSD outputs not switching OFF when beams are interrupted | Misalignment | Perform alignment procedure (Chapter 7). |
| Incorrect Test Piece used | Use the correct "Test piece" as described in Chapter 4.3. | |
| EDM function not activated or faulty | Check EDM activation and wiring (Chapter 9.4). | |
| Error codes displayed | Internal fault | Refer to Chapter 10 "Diagnostic functions" for specific error codes and their solutions. |
| Specific Function Issues | ||
| Muting not working | Incorrect wiring for muting sensors | Verify connections as per Chapter 6 and function setup in Chapter 9.6. |
| Blanking not working | Incorrect wiring or configuration | Verify connections as per Chapter 6 and function setup in Chapter 9.8. |
