Thermostat Control: The system is controlled by a room thermostat, cycling the outdoor unit and indoor blower on demand. The blower can operate continuously if the thermostat's fan switch is set to the 'ON' position.
Emergency Heat: Some thermostats include an emergency heat function for use when outdoor unit isolation is needed or when auxiliary electric heat is staged by outdoor thermostats.
Defrost Cycle: The system automatically defrosts the outdoor coil when frost is detected, with a defrost cycle lasting 5-15 minutes. Steam may be visible during defrost, which is normal.
Power Outage Considerations: If the outdoor temperature is below 50°F and power has been out for over an hour, set the thermostat to 'Emergency Heat' for at least 6 hours upon power restoration to stabilize system pressures before resuming normal heat pump operation.
