Setting up your camera:

  • Lift the lens cap.
  • Lens hood: The hood can be in the filming position or closed to protect the lens.
  • Viewfinder eyecup: Adjust the rubber eyecup for comfortable viewing with either eye. It can also be folded forward.
  • Eyepiece adjustment: Adjust the eyepiece for your eyesight by setting the focal length to 30mm, turning the focusing knob to infinity, and then adjusting the fluted knob until the picture is sharp.

Checking the batteries:

  • The camera requires four batteries for the motor and two for the exposure system.
  • Check battery condition using the levers on the right side of the magazine. If the needle does not move to the right, batteries are good.

Loading the film:

  • Open the magazine lid.
  • Slip the Super 8 film cartridge into the magazine with the label outwards and the flat end down.
  • Press firmly and close the magazine, ensuring the conversion filter lever is correctly positioned.

Filming:

  • Operate the mechanism by pressing the trigger or using a cable release.
  • Focusing: Use the knob on the left side to focus. Distances are marked in feet and metres.
  • Depth-of-field: The zone of sharpness depends on focal length, aperture, and distance. Consult the depth-of-field chart.
  • Framing the subject: Use the focal length knob to frame your subject. Zooming (changing focal length during filming) can create dynamic effects but should be used in moderation.
  • Automatic exposure system: The camera automatically adjusts the diaphragm based on light and film sensitivity. The viewfinder scale indicates the selected aperture.
  • Locking the exposure system: Press button (a) to lock the exposure. This is useful for alternating light and dark subjects or for deliberate over/under-exposure.

Filters: Use a filter mount for standard filters. The exposure system accounts for the filter's effect.

Film counter: Tracks used film. A signal in the viewfinder indicates loaded/unloaded status and remaining film.
