Getting Started

To get started, master the basic operations of the camcorder, then explore its full range of features.

Key Operations

  • Powering On: Connect the power adapter or battery. Turn the POWER dial to MOVIE.
  • Recording: Load a cassette. Press the START/STOP button to begin recording. Press it again to pause.
  • Zooming: Use the T/W buttons or the zoom control to zoom in (T) or out (W).
  • LCD Screen: Open the panel to activate the screen. Adjust the angle as needed.

Troubleshooting and error codes

SET THE TIME ZONE, DATE AND TIME Appears each time you turn the power on, until you set the time zone, date and time. Refer to p. 46
CHANGE THE BATTERY PACK Appears when the battery pack is exhausted. (See p. 12, 122)
TAPE END Appears when the tape has reached the end. Refer to p. 15
THE TAPE IS SET FOR ERASURE PREVENTION Appears when you try to do audio dubbing or A/V insert on a tape recorded in any mode other than SP mode. CHECK THE CASSETTE [REC MODE]
CHECK THE DV INPUT Appears when, during DV dubbing, the DV cable is disconnected or the power of the digital equipment connected to the camcorder is turned off. Refer to p. 128
CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED Appears as a warning to protect the cassette and also when condensation is detected. REMOVE THE CASSETTE
HEADS DIRTY, USE CLEANING CASSETTE Appears immediately after you start recording, and the video heads are badly contaminated. Clean the video heads.
CARD ERROR An error has occurred with the memory card. The camcorder cannot record or play back. Turn the camcorder's power off and back on again, and remove and reinsert the card.
CARD FULL There is no more remaining memory on the memory card. Change the card or erase images.
NAMING ERROR You have reached the maximum file or folder number. (See p. 97)
UNIDENTIFIABLE IMAGE The image has been recorded in an incompatible JPEG format or other format that the camera can not play back, or the image data has been damaged. N/A
PRINT MARK ERROR Appears if you have tried to mark 51 or more images for printing, or if a mark file cannot be edited. (See p. 108)
NO CARD A memory card has not been inserted into the camcorder. (See p. 95)
NO IMAGES There are no images recorded on the memory card. N/A
THE CARD IS SET FOR ERASURE PREVENTION You are using an SD Memory Card and it is set for erasure prevention. Change the position of the protect switch.
IN CARD POSITION Appears when you press the start/stop button in CARD REC mode. The image isn't recorded on the cassette or memory card. N/A
