About the Operating Modes

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Cause Solution
Pressing the playback button does not start playback. Camcorder is turned off, or is not set to PLAY (VCR) mode.
The TAPE/CARD switch is set to CARD.
Cassette is not loaded.
Tape reached the end ("END" flashes on the screen).
Set the camcorder to PLAY (VCR) mode.
Set the TAPE/CARD switch to TAPE.
Load a cassette.
Rewind the tape.
Image will not appear on the TV screen. [AV/PHONES] is set to [PHONES] in the menu.
[AV DV] is set to [ON] in the menu.
Set [AV/PHONES] to [AV] in the menu.
Set [AV DV] to [OFF] in the menu.
Tape is running, but image will not appear on the TV screen. TV/VIDEO selector on the TV is not set to VIDEO.
Video heads are dirty.
You attempted to play back or dub copyright protected tape.
Set the selector to VIDEO.
Clean the video heads.
Stop playback/dubbing.
No sound from the built-in speaker. Speaker volume is turned off. Adjust the volume with the SET dial.
Noise comes out of the headphones. [AV/PHONES] is set to [AV] in the menu. Set [AV/PHONES] to [PHONES] in the menu.
