Basic Recording

  1. Attach power source.
  2. Load cassette.
  3. Fasten grip belt, attach lens hood.
  4. Choose display (viewfinder or LCD).
  5. Adjust viewfinder or LCD.
  6. Turn POWER switch to CAMERA.
  7. Turn standby lever to STANDBY.
  8. Turn program selector to Easy Recording.
  9. Press start/stop button to begin recording.
  10. Press start/stop button again to pause.

Troubleshooting and error codes

ProblemCause and/or what to do about it
Nothing happens when I press the buttons.
  • Camera not switched on.
  • Cassette not loaded or set for erasure prevention.
  • Tape reached end.
  • Battery pack exhausted or not properly attached.
  • Function cannot be used in that recording program.
  • Top controls locked by lock lever.
The camera turned itself off.
  • Camera was in record pause mode for more than 5 minutes.
  • Battery pack is exhausted.
The start/stop button doesn't work.
  • POWER switch not set to CAMERA.
  • Standby lever set to LOCK.
  • Cassette not loaded or set for erasure prevention.
  • Tape reached end.
There's no picture in the display.
  • POWER switch not set to CAMERA.
  • Standby lever set to LOCK.
  • Camera not used for a long while; take off and reattach battery.
  • Lens cap is attached.
There's a blank blue screen in the display.
  • Attempting to play/record from copyright protected cassette.
  • Video heads are contaminated.
The camera won't focus.
  • Camera on manual focus.
  • Viewfinder lens needs adjusting.
  • Lens is dirty.
