Getting Started with the XL1

Preparation: Ensure the camera is powered, load a MiniDV cassette, and attach accessories like the lens and shoulder pad. Adjust the viewfinder for comfortable viewing.

Mounting Lenses: Align the red dot on the lens with the camera body and twist clockwise to lock. To remove, slide the LENS RELEASE switch and turn counter-clockwise.

Powering Up: Connect the DC coupler to the camera and power adapter, then plug into an AC outlet, or charge and attach the battery pack.

Basic Recording: Ensure a cassette is loaded and power is on. Use the camera menu to select settings like recording mode and audio input.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem/Display Possible Cause/Solution
"CHECK THE LENS" displayed No lens attached, or optional EF Adapter XL or Extender XL 1.6x attached without a lens. Turn off the camera and attach a lens.
"THE TAPE IS SET FOR ERASURE PREVENTION" The erase prevention tab on the cassette is exposed. Slide the tab back to close the hole.
"CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED" Condensation inside the camera. Remove the tape and wait for the camera to adjust.
"COPYRIGHT PROTECTED PLAYBACK IS RESTRICTED" Playback of copyrighted material is restricted.
"COPYRIGHT PROTECTED DUBBING RESTRICTED" Dubbing of copyrighted material is restricted.
