Getting Started

Powering Your Camcorder: Use the power adapter to provide instant power from an AC outlet or charge the battery pack. Always turn the camcorder off before connecting/removing power.

Loading a Cassette: Slide the OPEN/EJECT switch to open the cassette compartment, gently insert the cassette with the window facing the grip belt and REC/SAVE tab up, press the PUSH mark until it clicks, and close the cover.

Basic Recording: Set the POWER switch to CAMERA, load a cassette, slide the program selector to, press the start/stop button to begin recording, and press it again to pause.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Caution Phrase Display Appearance Action/Reference
REMOVE THE CASSETTE Appears as a warning to protect the cassette and also when condensation is detected. Remove the cassette as soon as possible after the camcorder has displayed the caution. Refer to p. 76.
COPYRIGHT PROTECTED PLAYBACK IS RESTRICTED Appears when the battery pack is exhausted. Refer to p. 76 or p. 77.
COPYRIGHT PROTECTED DUBBING RESTRICTED Appears when the tape has reached the end. Refer to p.17.
CHECK THE CASSETTE [REC MODE] Appears if you press the REC PAUSE button when the DV cable is not connected properly (75). Refer to p. 96.
CHECK THE CASSETTE [AUDIO MODE] Appears when you try to do audio dubbing or AV insert on a tape recorded in any mode other than SP mode (79, 82). Appears when you try to do audio dubbing on a tape recorded in 16-bit audio or 12-bit, 4-channel mode (82-84).
CHECK THE CASSETTE [BLANK] Appears when the camcorder detects a blank section of a tape during audio dubbing or AV insert (79, 82).
HEADS DIRTY, USE CLEANING CASSETTE Appears immediately after you start recording, and the video heads are badly contaminated. Make sure to clean the video heads when this caution appears (95).
