Warranty Information

Canon USA offers a 1-year warranty on parts and labor for the ZR30 MC digital video camcorder in the USA.

To start using the camcorder, first ensure it is powered correctly using either the AC adapter or a battery pack. Load a Mini DV cassette into the camcorder. To record, press the green POWER button and turn the POWER switch to CAMERA. The camcorder will enter record pause mode. Press the start/stop button to begin recording and again to pause. When finished, replace the lens cap, retract the viewfinder, unload the cassette, turn off the power, and disconnect the power source. To change recording modes, use the MENU to select VCR SET UP and then REC MODE. The 16:9 mode can be enabled via the MENU and CAM. SET UP. Beep confirmation sounds can be turned on or off via the MENU and SYSTEM settings.

Troubleshooting and error codes

SET THE TIME ZONE, DATE AND TIME Appears each time you turn the power on, until you set the time zone, date and time. Time zone, date, and time not set. Set the time zone, date, and time (see p. 49).
CHANGE THE BATTERY PACK Appears when the battery pack is exhausted. Battery pack is low. Replace or recharge the battery pack (see p. 124).
TAPE END Appears when the tape has reached the end. Cassette tape has finished. Replace the cassette.
THE TAPE IS SET FOR ERASURE PREVENTION Appears if you press the REC PAUSE button when the DV cable is not connected properly. Tape is protected from erasure. Slide the tab on the cassette to expose the hole. To record again, slide the tab back to close the hole.
CHECK THE DV INPUT Appears if you press the REC PAUSE button when the DV cable is not connected properly. DV cable not connected properly. Check the DV input connection (see p. 85).
CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED Appears when condensation is detected. Moisture inside the camcorder. Remove the cassette and allow the camcorder to dry.
HEADS DIRTY, USE CLEANING CASSETTE Appears immediately after you start recording, and the video heads are badly contaminated. Dirty video heads. Clean the video heads using a cleaning cassette.
PRINT MARK ERROR Appears if you have tried to mark 51 or more images for printing, or if a mark file cannot be edited. Too many print marks or edit error. Refer to page 115.
NO CARD A memory card has not been inserted into the camcorder. No memory card inserted. Insert a memory card (see p. 98).
NO IMAGES There are no images recorded on the memory card. No images on memory card. Record images or check the memory card.
THE CARD IS SET FOR ERASURE PREVENTION You are using an SD Memory Card and it is set for erasure prevention. Memory card is protected. Change the position of the protect switch on the memory card.
CARD FULL There is no more remaining memory on the memory card. Memory card is full. Change the card or erase images.
NAMING ERROR You have reached the maximum file or folder number. File or folder number limit reached. Refer to page 100.
UNIDENTIFIABLE IMAGE The image has been recorded in an incompatible JPEG format or other format that the camcorder cannot play back, or the image data has been damaged. Incompatible image format or data damage. Use a compatible format or check the image data.
