Before You Begin

Turn Off Your Computer and Connected Devices:

  1. Save and close all open files and exit all open programs.
  2. Shut down your computer according to your operating system (Windows 8 or Windows 7 instructions provided).
  3. Disconnect your computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
  4. Disconnect all telephone cables, network cables, and attached devices.
  5. Press and hold the power button while unplugged to ground the system board.

Safety Instructions:

  • Read safety information shipped with your computer.
  • Disconnect all power sources before opening the computer cover or panels.
  • Ensure the work surface is flat and clean.
  • Handle components and cards by their edges, avoiding pins and contacts.
  • Only certified technicians should access internal components.
  • Ground yourself by touching an unpainted metal surface before touching internal components.
  • When disconnecting cables, pull on the connector or pull-tab, not the cable itself.

After Working Inside Your Computer

  1. Replace all screws and ensure no stray screws remain.
  2. Connect any external devices, cables, cards, etc., that were removed.
  3. Connect your computer and attached devices to electrical outlets.
  4. CAUTION: Before turning on, ensure all screws are replaced and none remain inside.
  5. Turn on your computer.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
System does not boot Check power connections. Ensure all components are securely seated. Consult the "System Setup Utility" section for boot sequence options.
Computer runs slowly Check for background applications. Ensure sufficient memory is installed. Consider cleaning dust from fans and vents.
