Warranty Information

MTD warrants the MTD Product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the specified Warranty Period.

Starting the Mower:

  1. Ensure the area is clear of debris.
  2. Check fuel and oil levels.
  3. Stand behind the mower, pull the recoil starter rope slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly.
  4. Once the engine is running, squeeze the blade control against the upper handle.
  5. For self-propelled models, squeeze the drive control levers to engage the drive.

Stopping the Mower:

  1. Release the blade control to stop the engine and blade.
  2. Release drive control levers to stop self-propelling.

Adjusting Cutting Height:

  1. Pull the height adjustment lever outward.
  2. Move lever to the desired cutting height position.
  3. Release lever towards the deck.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Engine fails to start, runs erratic, overheats, skips, or idles poorly Refer to the Engine Operator's Manual. Refer to the Engine Operator's Manual for detailed troubleshooting.
Blade does not stop within 3 seconds after releasing the blade control Safety interlock system malfunction or other internal issue. Contact your Service Center.
Mower does not propel itself with the drive control engaged or wheels hesitate Drive belt is loose or has issues. Adjust the drive control wheel clockwise to tighten the cable. If necessary, contact an authorized Service Center.
Excessive vibration when rotating at high speeds Unbalanced blade. Check blade balance. Grind cutting edge equally to keep the blade balanced. Ensure the blade is properly installed and torqued. Contact Service Center if damage occurs.
