Starting the Engine: Ensure the machine is set up. For engines with choke, set lever to START when cold. Operate engine stop lever to prepare for start and keep pressed against the handle; this also operates the engine brake. For primer systems, press the pump 3-4 times and set accelerator lever to MAX. Then, pull the starter rope gently until resistance is felt from compression, return slowly, then pull firmly. For electric start, insert plug and turn ignition key. Mowing: Push the mower manually or engage automatic advance gear when the engine is running. Adjust speed as needed. Be sure the deflector or grasscatcher is in place. Remove foreign objects from the lawn before mowing.
