General Safety Precautions

  • Read user instructions carefully.
  • Keep the mower on the ground when mowing.
  • Keep bystanders away.
  • Beware of severing toes or hands; keep feet away from the blade.
  • Disconnect the spark plug before any maintenance.

Fuel Safety

  • Petrol is highly flammable.
  • Wear protective clothing.
  • Avoid skin contact.
  • Remove petrol and oil before transport.
  • Store fuel in a cool place in a suitable container.
  • Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke.
  • Add fuel BEFORE starting the engine.
  • Never refuel while the engine is hot.
  • If petrol is spilled, move the machine away from the area and avoid ignition sources.

Preparation

  • Wear substantial footwear and long trousers.
  • Ear protection is recommended.
  • Clear the lawn of debris.
  • Check for signs of wear or damage.
  • Replace worn or damaged blades in sets.
  • Have faulty silencers replaced.

Use

  • Do not operate in confined spaces.
  • Use only in daylight or good artificial light.
  • Avoid operating in wet grass.
  • Be careful on slopes; mow across the face of slopes.
  • Do not walk backwards when mowing.
  • Never cut grass by pulling the mower towards you.
  • Release the blade brake lever to stop the engine before pushing the mower on non-grass surfaces or for transport.
  • Never operate with damaged guards.
  • Do not overspeed the engine.
  • Keep hands and feet away from cutting means.
  • Never pick up or carry a lawnmower while the engine is running.
  • Spark plug wire may be hot.
  • Do not attempt maintenance on a hot engine.

Maintenance and Storage

  • Keep nuts, bolts and screws tight.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts.
  • Use specified replacement blade and bolt.
  • Never store with fuel in the tank inside a building.
  • Allow the engine to cool before storing.
  • To reduce fire hazard, keep areas free of grass, leaves, or grease.
  • Drain fuel tank outdoors if necessary.
  • Be careful to prevent finger entrapment.

Starting & Stopping

  • Place mower on a flat surface.
  • Fill tank with unleaded petrol (not mixed with oil).
  • Do not fill with petrol while the engine is running.
  • Hose away petrol spillage.
  • Connect the spark plug lead.
  • For cold engines, push primer bulb 3 times.
  • For warm engines, priming is usually unnecessary.
  • Pull the blade brake lever to the upper handle to start the engine.
  • Release the lever to stop the engine.
  • Start the engine by pulling the starting handle upwards.

Troubleshooting and error codes

FAULT FINDING POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION
Engine Will Not Start 1. Blade brake lever not in start position.
2. Insufficient fuel or blocked air vent.
3. Wet spark plug.
4. Stale petrol.
5. Loose blade bolt.
6. Spark plug lead not connected.
1. Ensure lever is in start position.
2. Check fuel level and vent.
3. Remove and dry spark plug.
4. Replace petrol.
5. Tighten blade bolt.
6. Connect spark plug lead. If problem persists, consult Service Centre.
Lack of Engine Power and/or Overheating 1. Spark plug lead not disconnected.
2. Debris around engine or deck.
3. Dirty engine air filter.
4. Stale petrol.
5. Engine lacks power or is overheating.
1. Disconnect spark plug lead and allow engine to cool.
2. Clean engine and deck.
3. Clean engine air filter (consult Service Centre for thorough cleaning).
4. Replace petrol.
5. If problem persists, disconnect spark plug lead and consult Service Centre.
Excessive Vibration 1. Spark plug lead not disconnected.
2. Blade incorrectly fitted.
3. Damaged or worn blade.
1. Disconnect spark plug lead.
2. Check blade fitting.
3. Replace blade with a new one. If vibration persists, disconnect spark plug lead and consult Service Centre.
