| Scanned colors differ from original | Ensure correct Image Type setting, adjust Display Gamma, Auto Exposure, Tone Correction, Color Control, and Continuous Auto Exposure. Enable Embed ICC Profile. Check computer's color management capabilities. |
| How to decide scanning resolution | Refer to table based on intended use: 96-150 dpi for email/web, 300-400 dpi for print/OCR, 200-400 dpi for searchable PDF, varying dpi for printer quality, 200 dpi for fax, and scale resolution for enlargement. |
| Scanner lights indications | Green On: Power on. Green Flashing: Power saving mode. Orange Flashing: Error. Blue Flashing: Initializing/scanning. (None) Off: Scanner off. |
| Cannot scan multiple images at once | Position photos at least 20 mm (0.8 inches) apart. |
| Scan does not fit under document cover | See instructions for Placing Large or Thick Documents. |
| How to remove dust marks | Use Dust Removal feature (Full Auto/Professional Mode) or DIGITAL ICE Technology (Home/Professional Mode for photos/film). |
| Negative film preview is strange/discolored | Check Document/Film Type settings. Use marquees around image area and Zoom to preview. Use thumbnail preview instead of normal preview. |
| Edges of original do not scan | Move document/photo away from edges (6mm for Full Auto/thumbnail preview, 3mm for normal preview in Office/Home/Professional modes) to avoid cropping. |
| Scanned image is too dark | Use Backlight Correction (Home/Professional), check Brightness, Display Gamma, Color Control, Continuous Auto Exposure, Recommended Value. Adjust Histogram in Professional Mode. Check monitor settings. |
| Line or line of dots always appears | Clean document table/transparency unit window. If scratched, contact Epson Support. |
| Only a few dots in scanned image | Ensure document is placed correctly. For Black & White scans, adjust Threshold setting. |
| Text/image on back of original appears | Place black paper behind original, check software settings, use Text Enhancement. |
| Straight lines come out crooked | Ensure document lies perfectly straight on document table. |
| Scanned image is distorted | Ensure document lies flat, is not wrinkled/warped. Do not move document/scanner while scanning. Ensure scanner is on a stable surface. Select Unsharp Mask, adjust Auto Exposure, Color Control, Continuous Auto Exposure. Reset Auto Exposure to default. Increase Resolution. |
| Colors patchy/distorted at edges | Cover edges with paper if document is thick or curled. |
| Product not converting characters to editable text | Ensure document lies straight. Use Text Enhancement (Office/Home). Adjust Threshold. Select Black&White for Image Type (Office/Home). Adjust Image Options (Professional). Check OCR software manual. |
| Scanned image does not show texture | Select Show Texture checkbox (Other menu in Configuration). Note: increases scan time, requires re-preview, not in Full Auto or for film, not with DIGITAL ICE. |
| Ripple patterns in scanned image | Select Descreening checkbox (Office/Home/Professional). In Professional, select Screen Ruling and deselect Unsharp Mask. Select a lower Resolution setting. Not applicable for film/monochrome/high resolutions. |
| Remove shadows from photos | Use Backlight Correction feature. |
| Scanned images are rotated incorrectly | Ensure documents/photos are placed correctly. Check film holder placement. Rotate using rotation icon in thumbnail preview. Disable/enable Auto Photo Orientation setting. |
| Image cropped or not right size when scanning to PDF | Set Epson Scan to Home or Professional mode, click Options under Image Format, select Actual Image Size for Paper Size. |
| Striped rings on film/slides | Place film/slides base side up, preview with thumbnail, flip previewed image using mirroring icon. |
| DIGITAL ICE does not fix photo well | Try rotating the image 90 or 180 degrees and scan again. |
| Problems adjusting scan area in thumbnail preview | Create/adjust marquee. Adjust thumbnail cropping area slider. Use normal preview and create marquees. |
| Cannot scan multiple document pages into a single PDF | Ensure using Scanner Driver and Epson Scan Utility v3.04a or higher. |
| Unable to write to file error | Check Work Area drive letter. Try scanning again. Close applications, delete files in Temp folder, restart computer, try again. |
