The FED-2 is a 35mm film camera known for its precision and versatility. To load film, unscrew the bottom nut, remove the camera from its case, open the back, and attach the film leader to the take-up reel. Close the camera and wind the shutter twice. Set the shutter speed and aperture according to lighting conditions and film sensitivity. Focus using the built-in rangefinder by aligning the doubled image in the viewfinder. The automatic shutter speed ranges from 1/500 to 1/25 sec, with a 'B' setting for long exposures. Flash photography is supported at 1/30 sec. Always cock the shutter before changing speeds to avoid damage. To rewind film, press the disengaging bush and turn the rewind knob.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Possible Problem Solution
Rangefinder out of adjustment Horizontal alignment: Remove the screw near the 'E' on the FED logo. Underneath, find a smaller screw. Set the lens to infinity and gently turn this screw until the two images in the rangefinder align. Vertical alignment: Remove the knurled metal surround near the 'F' or flash socket. Rotate the inner brass ring using a pin in the slots, applying no force.
Rangefinder seized Apply a small drop of oil to the rangefinder lever and shaft, working the lever gently. Do not use force or get oil elsewhere.
Shutter curtains moving slowly or quickly If the second curtain (closing) moves slowly: Unscrew bolt 3 and turn bolt 4 anticlockwise. If the second curtain moves quickly: Unscrew bolt 3 and turn bolt 4 clockwise. Bolt 1 and 3 are for fixing; bolt 2 and 4 are for regulation.
