Operation Summary

The GE Healthcare Electrophoresis Power Supply EPS 601 is designed for electrophoresis applications. It can deliver up to 600 volts and 400 mA. The device can control separations by voltage, current, or power, automatically switching between parameters based on programmed limits and system conductivity. It supports connection of up to two electrophoresis units running the same programmed method. Three programs can be saved.

Key operations include:

  • Programming: Setting voltage, current, power limits, and breakpoints. Programs can be chosen or created.
  • Running a Program: Connecting electrophoresis units and initiating the run. The display shows real-time parameters and elapsed time or volthours.
  • Pausing and Resuming: Interrupting the run for sample loading or program adjustments, then continuing.
  • Stopping: Manually stopping the run or allowing it to stop automatically at the programmed breakpoint.

Optional programming allows disabling the start current check for specific applications.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Error Message Possible Cause Remedy
EARTH LEAKAGE Leakage path to earth in connected electrophoresis unit Turn off power supply. Disconnect electrophoresis unit. Check unit for faults.
HIGH RESISTANCE Electrophoresis unit not connected correctly, or buffer with very low conductivity used Check leads and connections. Use buffer of appropriate conductivity. If necessary, disable start current check (see 5.4 Optional programming).
LOAD CHANGE Break in electrical circuit, e.g. bad connection to electrophoresis unit Check leads and connections.
