GE Appliances offers a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship, including labor and in-home service.
Element Cycling: Surface elements cycle on/off to maintain selected temperature. A temperature limiter prevents overheating.
Turning On/Off: Push knob down and turn to desired setting. "HOT SURFACE" indicator light stays on until cool.
Operating Elements: Use control knobs to select power level for each element. Models with Tri-Ring elements allow selection of large, medium, or small heating areas.
Synchronize Left Burners: Connect left front and rear elements for larger pan coverage on specific models.
Selecting Settings: Choose element size to match cookware. Use lower settings for melting/holding, higher for searing/frying. "Warming Zone" elements (on some models) use Med-Hi settings.
Cooktop Lockout: Prevents unintended use. Turn control lock to "Lock." Indicator light glows. Unlock by pressing and turning knob.
Hot Light Indicator: Glows when surface is hot and remains on until safe to touch.
Griddle (Optional): Place and remove when cool. Use "Sync Burner" feature to activate the entire griddle.
| Problem | Possible Cause | What To Do |
|---|---|---|
| Surface elements will not maintain a rolling boil or cooking is slow | Improper cookware being used. | Use pans that are absolutely flat and match the diameter of the surface unit selected. |
| Surface elements do not work properly | Cooktop controls improperly set. | Check to be sure the correct control is set for the surface element you are using. |
| Scratches on cooktop glass surface | Incorrect cleaning methods being used. | Use recommended cleaning procedures. See the Cleaning the glass cooktop section. |
| Areas of discoloration on the cooktop | Cookware with rough bottoms being used or coarse particles (salt or sand) were between the cookware and the surface of the cooktop. Cookware has been slid across the cooktop surface. | To avoid scratches, use the recommended cleaning procedures. Make sure bottoms of cookware are clean before use, and use cookware with smooth bottoms. |
| Plastic melted to the surface | Food spillovers not cleaned before next use. Hot surface on a model with a light-colored glass cooktop. | See the Cleaning the glass cooktop section. This is normal. The surface may appear discolored when it is hot. This is temporary and will disappear as the glass cools. |
| Pitting (or indentation) of the cooktop | Hot cooktop came into contact with plastic placed on the hot cooktop. Hot sugar mixture spilled on the cooktop. | See the Glass surface - potential for permanent damage section in the Cleaning the glass cooktop section. Call a qualified technician for replacement. |
