Powering On/Off: Locate the instrument's ON/OFF switch on the rear panel (page 21). Turn it to the 'I' position to power ON and 'O' position to power OFF.
Main Menu Navigation: Use the buttons on the front panel to navigate through the menus. The main menu provides access to various functions like setting wavelength, autozero, and setup options (page 43).
Setting Wavelength: Access the wavelength setting from the main menu to select the desired measurement wavelength. This is crucial for accurate absorbance readings (page 43).
Autozero: Before taking measurements, perform an autozero to establish a baseline. This is typically done from the main menu (page 45).
Reading Absorbance: Once the instrument is set up and autozered, it will display absorbance values. Ensure the flow cell is properly installed and filled with the mobile phase (page 45).
System Checks: Regularly check the system's performance through the 'Check menu' to ensure optimal operation (page 50).

Troubleshooting and error codes

Fault Possible cause Corrective action
No text on the display No power to the monitor Check that the mains cable is connected and the mains switch is in ON-position (I)
Noisy UV-signal, signal drift or instability The buffer may be impure Check with water if the signal is still noisy
There may be air in the flow cell If there is a lot of air in the water, degas the buffer continuously (we recommend helium sparging). Check the connections of the UV cell optical fibers.
Dirt in the flow cell or fiber connectors Clean the UV cell, see Cleaning the flow cell, on page 56
Ghost peaks Air in the eluents Degas if necessary (we recommend helium sparging)
Dirt or residues in the flow path from previous runs Clean the flow cell and flow path
Residues in the column from previous runs Clean the column in accordance with the column instructions
Error in external chart recorder The recorder not properly set up Check the chart recorder in accordance with its manual
Monitor UVis-920 not properly set up Test the recorder function by selecting recorder test according to Check analog output, on page 50
