Operation Summary

Using Batteries:

Set the AC/BATT. (DC) selector to "BATT" and insert 8 IEC R20 batteries.

Using Household AC:

Set the AC/BATT. (DC) selector to "AC" and plug the AC power lead into an outlet. Set the VOLTAGE SELECTOR to your local voltage before using.

Listening to Radio:

Extend the telescopic antenna for FM/SW2. Use the built-in antenna for SW1/MW. Set the FM MODE selector to "STEREO" for stereo broadcasts or "MONO" to reduce noise. Tune using the TUNING CONTROL.

Cassette Operation:

Insert a cassette. Use PLAYBACK, REWIND, FAST FORWARD, STOP/EJECT, PAUSE, and DIRECTION buttons as needed. For recording, press RECORD. For dubbing, insert tapes into TAPE 1 and TAPE 2 and select DUBBING SPEED.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Cause
No AC power.

  • Are the batteries properly inserted in the battery compartment?
  • Are the batteries exhausted?
No sound from the speaker or headphones.
  • Are the batteries exhausted?
Tape does not run when a button is pressed.
  • Is the cassette upside down?
  • Is the PAUSE button pressed? If so, unlock and release.
  • Are the accidental-erasure prevention tabs punched out? If so, cover the holes with plastic tape.
  • Is a cassette inserted in the unit?
Cassette cannot be inserted.
  • Is a cassette inserted in the unit?
No recording.
  • Is a cassette inserted in the unit?
Deteriorated sound or irregular tape speed. Clean heads, capstan and pressure roller with a cleaning stick.
Slow tape speed or low volume.
  • Are the batteries exhausted?
