Trial Recording and Playback

To begin, power the DVD camera/recorder from an AC outlet. Then, perform a trial recording and play it back. For actual use, thoroughly read the "Setups" and "Recording" sections to ensure correct operation.

Necessary Devices:

  • DVD camera/recorder
  • AC adapter/charger (DZ-ACP1)
  • DC power cable
  • Power cable
  • 8 cm DVD-RAM disc

Making a Trial Recording:

  1. Set the RECORDING MODE switch to "movie".
  2. Connect the AC adapter/charger to the DVD camera/recorder.
  3. Insert the DVD-RAM disc cartridge.
  4. Turn the DVD camera/recorder on.
  5. Set the current date and time.
  6. Start recording by pressing the REC button.

Playing It Back:

  1. Press the 11 button while in recording pause mode.
  2. Stop playback by pressing the NN button.
  3. Turn power off.

Troubleshooting and error codes

supplies Battery cannot be charged. Is DC power cable plugged into the AC adapter/ charger? Disconnect it. 38
Is the battery attached correctly? Remove the battery once, make sure of the orientation, and then reattach it.
The CHG. or CHG.80 indicator on AC adapter/charger blinks during charging. Is the battery abnormally hot? Remove the battery, leave it for a while to cool down, then charge it. 41
Is the ambient temperature too low or too high? Charge the battery at 10-30°C.
The POWER indicator on AC adapter/charger blinks during charging. Has the battery been unused for a long time? Remove the battery, and then reattach it. If the battery is still not charged, it may be dead: Purchase a new one.
During recording Pressing the REC button will not start recording. Is the RECORDING MODE switch set to "still"? If it is set to still, recording is not possible by pressing REC. Set the switch to the movie mode. 64
Recording starts but stops immediately. Is disc scratched or does dirt or fingerprint adhere to it? Clean the disc. If there is still no improvement, replace the disc. 36
During recording LCD screen is hard to see. Has brightness of LCD screen been adjusted? Stop recording and adjust the brightness. 59
Is the DVD camera/recorder being used outdoors? Use the viewfinder. When using LCD monitor, adjust its angle so that LCD screen is not exposed to direct sunlight. 58
Focus is not correct. Is it difficult to use auto focus with your subject? Does "FOCUS" appear? Focus manually. 63, 72
The DVD camera/ recorder is set to manual focus. Focus the subject manually, or release manual focus. 72
During recording Focus is not correct. Is the diopter control correctly adjusted if you are using the viewfinder as a monitor? Adjust the diopter control. 57
In cases other than the above, turn the POWER switch off, and then on again.
During playback Recognition of disc is not complete Is disc dirty? Use soft, dry cloth to clean it. -
Pressing the playback button will not start playback. Has the image been recorded by devices other than this DVD camera/ recorder? Playback of image recorded on devices other than this DVD camera/ recorder may be impossible on this DVD camera/ recorder. 136
Has scene been edited by applications other than Disc Navigation? If the scene recorded on this camera/recorder is edited with applications other than Disc Navigation, playback may not be possible on this DVD camera/ recorder. 136
No playback picture appears on TV screen. Is TV input selector set correctly? Some TVs have multiple video input jacks. Check whether the correct input was selected on TV to match the connected jacks. If the DVD camera/ recorder is connected to VCR, set its input selector to "external input (LINE)". 138
No playback picture appears on TV screen. Is the DVD camera/recorder connected to TV correctly? Check the connections. 138
Playback picture is momentarily interrupted. Is disc scratched or does dirt or fingerprint adhere to it? Clean the disc. 36
No sound Is the TV volume control set correctly? Adjust TV volume control, and be sure to adjust the volume on TV. 138
Miscella-neous Power does not come on, or no operation occurs by pressing button. Has the DVD camera/recorder been subjected to impact? The DVD camera/ recorder could be damaged. Consult your dealer. -
Detach the battery or AC adapter/charger, and use a fine tipped pen to hold down the reset button for several seconds. Then reattach the battery or AC adapter/charger, and operate the DVD camera/recorder. Resetting the DVD camera/recorder will return the date/time and all setting items on the menu screen to defaults: Reset the date/time and each menu setting item as needed. 132
Miscella-neous The date and time are incorrect. Has the DVD camera/recorder been left unused for a long period of time? The internal backup memory may be discharged: Charge it. 51
The date will be displayed as January 1, 2000 each time power is turned on. Has the internal backup battery been charged?
Disc cannot be removed. Has disc rotation stopped? Disc cannot be removed unless rotation has stopped. Wait before trying to remove it again. 48
Disc cannot be removed. Did you detach the battery or AC adapter/charger before turning the POWER switch off? Connect the battery pack or AC adapter/charger, turn the POWER switch on and then off, and remove the disc after the disc unlocking sound is heard. 48
DVD camera/ recorder cannot be operated from remote control. Is the remote control pointed at the infrared receiver on DVD camera/recorder? Point it at the infrared receiver to operate the DVD camera/ recorder. 53
Is the infrared receiver on DVD camera/recorder exposed to direct sunlight or strong fluorescent light, etc.? The remote control cannot operate the DVD camera/recorder when strong light strikes the infrared receiver. Adjust the place or angle of the DVD camera/recorder.
Miscella-neous DVD camera/ recorder cannot be operated from remote control. Are there batteries in the remote control? Also check the polarities of batteries. The batteries could be dead: Try replacing them. 52
Is the DVD camera/recorder powered? Turn it on. 57
Disc cover cannot be closed. Is disc correctly inserted? Was disc inserted until it locked? Was disc inserted from wrong direction? Remove the disc and then reinsert it. 45
