Basic Operation

This manual provides instructions for operating your Hitachi VHS camcorder.

  • Powering On/Off: Slide the POWER switch to "CAM" to turn on and "OFF" to turn off.
  • Recording: Press the "REC/PAUSE" button to start recording. The "REC" indicator will appear. Press it again to pause.
  • Playback: After recording, slide the POWER switch to "VIDEO", press "REW" to rewind, and then press "PLAY" to view the recorded footage.
  • Viewfinder: Adjust the viewfinder for a clear image. It displays the scene being recorded and playback information.
  • Battery/AC Power: Use the provided battery or AC adapter/charger for power. Follow charging instructions carefully.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Check Point & Correction
INSERTING OR REMOVING THE CASSETTE
Cassette holder cannot be opened when you slide “EJECT” button Connect the power source.
Cassette cannot be inserted into cassette compartment. Load cassette in direction indicated by arrow on cassette. Cassette window must be toward outside.
CAMERA RECORDING
Picture does not appear in the viewfinder. Remove the lens cap.
Slide the power switch to "CAMERA"
Disconnect the AV input cable from the camera/recorder.
The camera/recorder cannot go into the recording mode, even when the start/stop button is pressed. Check the record protect tab on the cassette.
Picture is out of focus. Make sure that the "FOCUS M” does not appear in the viewfinder. If it is displayed, press “Focus” select button to erase it.
Auto-Focus does not operate if a special effects filter is attached.
NO OPERATION IS ACCEPTED
Power is turned on, but no button operations are accepted. Remove the power source, and after about one minute, push the reset switch gently using a toothpick, etc. until you feel a click. Since this erases the date, time and other customer preferred features, reset them again.
PLAYBACK OF PRE-RECORDED CASSETTE
"PLAY" button cannot be engaged. Set the "POWER" switch to "VIDEO" position.
No picture appears on television screen when Camera/recorder channel (3 or 4) depending upon the selected channel on (TV is connected to the camera/recorder using RF converter unit.) Set the television to the "PLAY" is pressed.
