System Overview

The DPS8 46/70 is a distributed computer system designed for various applications. It comprises a host system (CPU-E, SCU, IOM) connected to remote systems via a network processor and local data bases. The system supports multiple users and features advanced storage management with virtual memory capabilities. Maintenance is facilitated through a Distributed Maintenance Services (DMS) approach, including remote and on-site contracts.

Key Components

  • CPU-E: Central Processing Unit.
  • SCU: System Control Unit, managing main memory.
  • IOM: Input/Output Multiplexer, handling data interfaces.
  • FEP: Front End Network Processor, managing communication.
  • Virtual Memory: Disk-based storage for extended address space.
  • Real Storage: Main frame memory.
  • DPU: Diagnostic Processor Unit for maintenance.

System Operation

The system operates using the GCOS 8 operating system, featuring multidimensional, multi-processing design and dynamic memory management. It supports various peripherals and communication protocols. Maintenance operations include remote diagnostics and on-site support.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Error Code Description
SOFTWARE "CMD" MODULE ERRORS (R1 = 13XX)
R1 = 1301 Command Directive invalid
R1 = 1302 Command argument required decimal digit
R1 = 1303 Command argument requires smaller digit
R1 = 1306 Command includes an argument error
R1 = 130F Command error due to missing or faulty argument
R1 = 1324 Command specifies invalid device type
R1 = 132A Command specifies duplicate channel
R1 = 1339 Command device error, cannot read label
