Startup Procedure

  1. Set RUN/STOP to STOP.
  2. Open control panel access door.
  3. Set DISC PROTECT and FORMAT switches.
  4. Set UNIT SELECT for desired logical unit address.
  5. Set POWER switch to ON.
  6. Close control panel access door.
  7. Open cartridge access door.
  8. Insert HP 12940A Formatted Disc Cartridge.
  9. Close cartridge access door.
  10. Set RUN/STOP to RUN.

Changing a Disc Cartridge

  1. Set RUN/STOP to STOP.
  2. Allow spindle to halt.
  3. Open cartridge access door.
  4. Remove old cartridge.
  5. Insert new cartridge.
  6. Close cartridge access door.
  7. Set RUN/STOP to RUN.

Shutdown Procedure

  1. Set RUN/STOP to STOP.
  2. Allow spindle to halt.
  3. Set POWER switch to OFF.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Condition Indication Operator Response
No DRIVE READY after 1 minute (or longer if temp. difference is > 3°C) when RUN/STOP is set to RUN. No DRIVE READY indicator. Check for errors like incorrect logical unit/device address or improperly seated disc cartridge. If DRIVE FAULT is not lit, set RUN/STOP to STOP.
DRIVE FAULT indicator lights at any time. DRIVE FAULT indicator is lit. Set RUN/STOP to STOP. Check for errors. Report to supervising operator.
SELF TEST FAILED indicator lights steady (for drives with integrated controller). SELF TEST FAILED indicator is lit steady. If not blinking, check OP/SERVICE switch is at OP. Report to supervising operator.
SELF TEST FAILED indicator blinks continuously (for drives with integrated controller). SELF TEST FAILED indicator is blinking. Check that the OP/SERVICE switch on the self-test panel is at the OP position.
