Getting Started: Connect the HP SimpleSave Desktop Hard Drive to your computer using the provided USB cable and AC adapter. The drive is plug-and-play. The HP SimpleSave™ backup software is included and should launch automatically.

Features: Includes a power/activity LED, USB 2.0 interface for fast data transfer, and HP SimpleSave™ backup software for easy backups and restores.

Connecting: Turn on your computer, connect the power cord and USB cable. Wait for your computer to configure the drive. The backup software starts automatically.

Disconnecting: To safely remove the drive, right-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray and select "Safely Remove Hardware".

Troubleshooting: If the drive doesn't appear, check the power LED, USB connections, and restart the computer. For software issues, refer to the HP SimpleSave Backup Software User Manual.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
Drive does not appear on my computer 1. Check if the power LED is lit.
2. Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to the drive and computer.
3. Unplug and reconnect the USB cable after 10 seconds.
4. Check Device Manager to see if the USB port is recognized.
Message: "high-speed device connected to a low-speed port" (Windows XP) This is normal. You are using a USB 1.1 port, so speeds will be slower.
Data transfer rate seems slow with USB 2.0 adapter card Ensure USB 2.0 card drivers are current and properly installed. The drive performs as fast as the host adapter allows.
HP SimpleSave backup software is not working Refer to the HP SimpleSave Backup Software User Manual located on the drive.
Reformatted drive and/or need to reinstall software Download and reinstall from http://hpsupport.wdc.com.
Write Cache Enable does not stay enabled Write Cache is turned off for data protection. Refer to http://hpsupport.wdc.com for more information.
Administrator privilege for installing software Log in as an administrator or consult Windows Help.
