Getting Started

Congratulations on your new HP digital camera! This manual guides you through its features, including HP Instant Share™™, direct printing, manual and automatic controls, and on-camera help.

Camera Parts:

  • ON/OFF switch: Turns the camera on and off.
  • Zoom lever: Zooms the lens in and out.
  • Wrist strap mount: Attaches the wrist strap.
  • Power/Memory light: Indicates camera status (on, writing, charging).
  • Memory card door: Allows access to the memory card.
  • OK button: Displays menus and confirms selections.
  • Controller buttons: Navigate menus and images.
  • Share button: Activates the Share menu.
  • Playback button: Toggles Playback mode.
  • Live View button: Toggles Live View mode.
  • Image Display: Frames pictures and reviews images.
  • Viewfinder: Frames subjects.

Setup:

  • Attaching the wrist strap: Secure the strap to the mount.
  • Installing batteries: Open the door, insert batteries, close the door.
  • Installing memory card: Open door, slide card in until it snaps, close door.

Turning on Power

Slide the ON/OFF switch to turn the camera on. The lens extends, the Image Display activates, and the Power/Memory light turns solid.

Understanding the Status Screen

The status screen displays current focus, flash, resolution, compression settings, battery level, and remaining pictures. It also shows non-default Capture menu settings.

Troubleshooting and error codes

ProblemSolution
Camera not turning on Ensure batteries are inserted correctly and charged. Use the AC adapter if available.
Cannot take pictures Check if the memory card is inserted correctly and has sufficient space. Ensure the camera is not in an error state (check viewfinder lights).
Blurry images Hold the camera steady. Ensure focus is achieved (half-press shutter button). Clean the lens.
Poor image quality Adjust resolution and compression settings. Check lighting conditions. Clean the lens.
Error messages on camera Refer to the "Error messages on the camera" section on page 84.
Cannot connect to computer Ensure the USB cable is properly connected. Check USB settings on the camera (Chapter 6). Install the necessary software.
