Getting Started

This section guides you through the initial setup of your HP Photosmart R817/R818 digital camera.

Setup Steps:

  • Install Camera Dock Insert (Optional): For HP Photosmart R-series dock users, ensure the correct insert is used. Refer to the dock's manual for connection instructions.
  • Attach Wrist Strap: Secure the wrist strap to the designated mount on the camera's side.
  • Install the Battery: Open the battery/memory card door, insert the rechargeable HP Photosmart R07 Lithium Ion battery, and close the door.
  • Charge the Battery: Connect the AC adapter to the cradle and place the camera in it. The Power light will blink while charging. A full charge takes 4-6 hours.
  • Turn on the Camera: Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right. The lens will extend, and the Power light will turn solid blue.
  • Choose Language and Region: Follow on-screen prompts to select your preferred language and region.
  • Set Date and Time: Input the correct date and time, and confirm the settings.
  • Install and Format Memory Card: Insert a memory card and format it for optimal performance.
  • Install Software: Install the HP Image Zone software from the included CD for image transfer and camera configuration.
