Introduction

This manual provides instructions for operating the JVC DX-T5 Compact Component System.

Precautions

Installation

  • Install in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent internal heat buildup.
  • Avoid heat sources, direct sunlight, excessive dust, and vibration.
  • Ensure the location is level, dry, and within a temperature range of 5°C to 35°C.
  • Maintain sufficient distance between the system and the TV, and keep speakers away from the TV to avoid interference.

Power Sources

  • Pull the plug, not the cord, when unplugging from the wall outlet.
  • Do not handle the AC power cord with wet hands.

Moisture Condensation

  • If condensation occurs, leave the system on for a few hours to evaporate moisture, then unplug and plug back in.

Internal Heat

  • Ensure good ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Do not block ventilation openings or holes.

Others

  • In case of metallic objects or liquid falling into the system, unplug and consult your dealer.
  • Do not disassemble the system as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Unplug the AC power cord if not using the system for an extended period.

Daily Operations—Playback

  1. Turn on the power.
  2. Select the source (DVD/CD, TAPE-A, TAPE-B, AUX, FM/AM).
  3. Adjust the volume.
  4. Operate the target source as explained later.

To turn off (stand by) the system

The STANDBY lamp on the main unit lights in red. A small amount of power is always consumed even while on standby.

For private listening

Connect headphones to the PHONES jack. Turn down the volume before connecting.

Listening to the Radio

Select the AM tuner interval spacing (9 kHz or 10 kHz).

Preset up to 30 FM and 15 AM stations.

Tune in to stations manually or by using preset numbers.

Playing Back a Disc

Insert discs into the disc tray.

Select the desired disc, title/group, or chapter/track.

Playback can be paused or stopped. Resume Play is available for DVD/SVCD/VCD/MP3.

Playing Back a Tape

Insert a type I tape.

Change tape running direction and reverse automatically.

Relay Play allows continuous playback from both decks.

Daily Operations—Sound&Other Adjustments

  • Adjust Volume using the remote or main unit.
  • Reinforce Bass Sound with ACTIVE BASS EX. or RHYTHM AX.
  • Adjust Output Balance (Left/Right).

Selecting the Sound Modes

  • Choose from SEA Modes (ROCK, POP, CLASSIC), User Modes (USER1-3), Multi Mode, and Surround Modes (DANCE, HALL, STADIUM).
  • Create your own sound modes by adjusting Bass and Treble levels.

Creating 3-dimensional Sound Field—3D Phonic

  • Select 3D ACTION, 3D DRAMA, or 3D THEATER for different sound effects.

Presetting Automatic DVD Video Sound Increase Level

  • Adjust DVD LEVEL from 1 to 3 to compensate for lower recorded sound levels on some DVDs.

Changing the Color System and Scanning Mode

  • Select NTSC or PAL and interlaced or progressive scanning for optimal video output.

Changing the Picture Tone

  • Select preset picture tones (NORMAL, CINEMA, USER1/USER2) or adjust GAMMA, BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST, SATURATION, TINT, and SHARPNESS.

Changing the Display Brightness

  • Adjust display brightness with DIMMER 1 or DIMMER 2.

Setting the Clock

  • Set the clock time for timer functions.

Turning Off the Power Automatically

  • Use the Sleep Timer to automatically turn off the system after a set time.

Unique DVD/VCD Operations

  • Select Sound Track (audio languages/channels).
  • Select Subtitle Language.
  • Select View Angle.
  • Review Playback Quickly (Glance Back).
  • Select Browsable Still Pictures.
  • Play Back Bonus Group by entering a key number.
  • Use Slow-motion playback and Zoom features.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Operation is cancelled before completion. Operation time limit exceeded. Re-attempt the operation.
Operation cannot be performed. Microprocessor malfunction due to external interference. Unplug and reconnect the AC power cord.
Cannot operate with the remote control. Obstruction between remote and sensor. Remove obstruction.
Batteries depleted. Replace batteries.
No sound. Speaker connections are incorrect or loose. Check speaker connections.
Headphones are connected. Disconnect headphones.
No picture on the screen. Video connection is incorrect or loose. Check video connections.
No picture, picture is unclear, or picture is split. TV does not support progressive scan input.
Incorrect color system setting. Refer to page 14.
Left and right edges of the picture are not displayed. Aspect ratio setting is incorrect. Set to "4:3 Letter Box" on page 36.
Radio reception is noisy. Antenna connection is incorrect or loose. Check antenna connections.
AM loop antenna is too close to the unit. Move the antenna away.
FM antenna is not extended or positioned correctly. Extend and position the FM antenna correctly.
Disc cannot be played. Disc region code is not "3". Use a disc with region code "3".
Disc is inserted upside down. Insert the disc with the label side facing up.
MP3 disc ID3 tag is not displayed. Only ID3 tag version 1 is displayed. Use MP3 files with ID3 tag version 1.
