Introduction

This manual guides you through setting up and using your JVC Compact Component System (FS-SD1000). Features include COMPU PLAY for one-touch operation, a powered subwoofer for enhanced bass, 45-station presets, CD playback options (including CD-R/RW), and timer functions.

Basic Operations

  • Power On/Off: Press the O/I button. The Top Cover slides back for access to buttons.
  • Brightness: Use the DIMMER button to adjust display brightness.
  • Volume: Use VOLUME +/- buttons to adjust volume (0-50).
  • Muting: Press FADE MUTING to mute output; press again to unmute.
  • Tone Control: Use BASS/TREBLE buttons and UP/DOWN buttons to adjust levels.
  • Time Display: Press CLOCK/DISPLAY to show the current time.
  • Top Cover Slide: Use DOOR SLIDE to open or close the Top Cover.

Using the Tuner

  • Tune to FM/AM stations manually, automatically, or via presets.
  • Save up to 30 FM and 15 AM stations.
  • Change FM reception mode between Stereo and Mono.

Using the CD Player

  • Insert CD by placing it label-side up and pressing the center.
  • Play, pause, stop, fast forward/backward through tracks.
  • Program track playback order (up to 32 tracks).
  • Use Random Play for shuffled playback.
  • Repeat tracks or the entire CD.

Using External Equipment

  • Connect external devices like MD recorders or tape decks via MD/AUX terminals.
  • Record System sources to external equipment via MD/AUX or CD DIGITAL OUT.

Using the Timers

  • Set the Clock for timer functions.
  • Set Daily Timer for automatic daily on/off with selected source and volume.
  • Set Sleep Timer to automatically turn off the system after a set duration.

Care and Maintenance

  • Handle CDs carefully; wipe with a soft cloth from center to edge if dirty.
  • Clean the lens with a blower or cotton swab.
  • Clean the unit with a soft cloth.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Possible Cause Action
No sound is heard. Connections are incorrect, or loose.
Headphones are connected.
Check all connections and make corrections.
Disconnect the headphones.
Poor radio reception The antenna is disconnected.
The AM Loop Antenna is too close to the System.
The FM Wire Antenna is not properly extended and positioned.
Reconnect the antenna securely.
Change the position and direction of the AM Loop Antenna.
Extend FM Wire Antenna to the best reception position.
The CD skips. The CD is dirty or scratched. Clean or replace the CD.
The CD does not play. The CD is upside down.
The path between the Remote Control and the sensor on the Unit is blocked.
Put the CD in with the label side up.
Remove the obstruction.
Unable to operate the Remote Control. The batteries have lost their charge. Replace the batteries.
Operations are disabled. The built-in microprocessor has malfunctioned due to external electrical interference. Unplug the System then plug it back in.
NO DISC appears. There is no disc in the tray, or CD, CD-R or CD-RW that hasn't yet been finalized (including blank discs) has been inserted. Insert a CD, CD-R or CD-RW that has been finalized.
Subwoofer automatically turns on, but no sound is output. The volume knob of the Subwoofer is set to MIN position. Adjust the volume knob.
Subwoofer does not automatically turn on. The volume knob of the Subwoofer is set to MIN position. Also, the volume level of the Unit is low. Adjust both volume levels.
