FIRST THINGS

This portable system operates on battery or AC power.

INSERTING BATTERIES

1. Open the battery compartment cover. Pull the cover toward you while pressing the indicated sections. 2. Insert eight R20 (SUM-1)/D (13D)-size batteries (not supplied), ensuring correct polarity. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

SUPPLYING AC POWER

1. Plug the supplied power cord into the AC IN jack on the unit and then into an AC power outlet. 2. For complete power disconnection, unplug the cord from the outlet.

USING HEADPHONES

1. Connect commercially available headphones to the PHONES jack on the rear of the main unit. 2. The speakers will not produce sound when headphones are connected. 3. Turn the volume down before connecting headphones.

ANTENNAS

AM antenna is built-in; positioning the unit may improve reception. FM telescopic antenna on the back can be extended and rotated for better reception.

GENERAL CONTROLS

STANDBY/ON //: Press to turn the unit on/off. The display window lights up when the unit is on (except when operating on batteries).

SETTING THE CLOCK

1. Turn off the unit. 2. Press and hold PROGRAM/CLOCK SET for over 2 seconds. The hour digits flash. 3. Press or to adjust the hour, then press PROGRAM/CLOCK SET. Minute digits flash. 4. Press or to adjust the minutes, then press PROGRAM/CLOCK SET.

Troubleshooting and error codes

  CD mechanism will not open
When using the remote control unit, press the STOP/EJECT/ button twice to open the CD compartment.
If the CD mechanism will not open, press the unit's STOP/EJECT/ button twice to open the CD compartment.
CD disc is not loaded.

The unit is not connected to the AC power outlet, or the batteries are dead.

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the disc from the center outward.

Station is too far away or is not broadcasting.
Try tuning in another station.
  Tape does not play Cassette tape is not loaded correctly.
Load tape correctly.
The wrong type of tape is used.
Use only Type-I (normal) tapes.
The tape heads are dirty.

  Disc menu does not appear (DVD)
