Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptoms Check points Symptoms Check points
Power No power is supplied.
Recording Is the battery pack correctly installed? Recording does not start even when the white line on the viewfinder screen reduces in size. Have you pressed the REC and PLAY buttons? If only the REC button is pressed, recording does not take place.
Is the power supply unit correctly connected?
Is the POWER switch of the connected AC adapter set to ON?
Check to see if the cassette safety tab is in place. See page 5. Playback Tape is running, but no playback picture appears.
Picture colors greatly differ from actual subject colors. Have you set the FILTER switch correctly? Is the VIDEO/TV switch of the RF unit set to VIDEO?
Have you moved to a different location after adjusting white balance? Or have you shot after 3 hours have elapsed from the last white balance adjustment? If so, readjust white balance. Is the TV receiver set to channel 3 or 4?
Have you shot with the WHITE BALANCE switch set to STD under mixed lighting or a cloudy sky? If so, adjust white balance. If A/V connection is used, is the TV's VIDEO/TV switch set to VIDEO?
White balance adjustment is not possible. Have you aimed the lens at a white object? Noise bars appear in the playback picture.
Have you set the FILTER switch correctly first? Use the TRACKING control to reduce noise bars.
Halation or black-out occurs. Is the exposure indicator line in the viewfinder lower than the center position? If so, increase lighting. Video heads may be dirty or worn out. For head cleaning or replacement, consult the nearest JVC Service Dealer.
No sound is recorded with an external microphone. Check whether the IRIS control has accidentally moved out of the STD position. Have you shot with the IRIS LOCK button pressed? Use this button only for special purposes. Is the microphone's switch set to ON? Tape transport Tape stops during fast forward or rewind.
Is the "M" indication visible in the tape counter? If so, press the MEMORY button to cancel the memory function.
Rewinding or fast forwarding is impossible. Check to see if the tape has already been fully wound on one reel or the other.
Other No function is available with more than two mode indicators lit. If this should happen when using power supply units other than the battery pack, turn their POWER switch on and off. With a battery pack, replace it with another charged one.

The GR-C1U is a microcomputer-controlled device. External noise and interference might prevent it from functioning properly. In such cases, first disconnect its power supply unit (battery pack, AC power adapter, etc.); and then reconnect it and proceed as usual from the beginning.
