Getting Started

1. Powering On/Off: Set the Power Switch to "A" (Full Auto), "M" (Manual), or "PLAY" while pressing the Lock Button. To turn off, set the Power Switch to "OFF".

2. Video Recording:

  • Remove the lens cap.
  • Open the LCD monitor.
  • Set the VIDEO/MEMORY switch to "VIDEO".
  • Set the Power Switch to "A" or "M".
  • Press the Recording Start/Stop Button to begin recording ("REC" appears). Press again to stop.

3. Playback:

  • Set the VIDEO/MEMORY switch to "VIDEO".
  • Set the Power Switch to "PLAY".
  • Press ►/II to start playback. Press ■ to stop.

4. Digital Still Camera (D.S.C.) Recording:

  • Set the VIDEO/MEMORY switch to "MEMORY".
  • Set the Power Switch to "A" or "M".
  • Press the Snapshot Button [SNAPSHOT] to take a picture.

5. Memory Card Operations: Load/unload memory cards by opening the card cover. Protect files by sliding the write/erase protection tab.

Basic Connections

To TV/VCR: Use the provided S/AV cable to connect the camcorder to your TV or VCR. Ensure all units are off before connecting.

To PC (USB): Connect the camcorder to the PC using the USB cable for transferring files or using software like PowerDirector 3. Ensure all units are off before connecting.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Trouble Possible Cause Solution
When the camcorder is turned on, the POWER/CHARGE lamp does not light. The battery pack is not attached correctly. Re-attach the battery pack.
The battery pack charge is low. Charge the battery pack.
The AC adapter is not connected correctly. Connect the AC adapter correctly.
Charging is not possible. The wrong type of battery is used. Use a JVC Data Battery (BN-VF707U, BN-VF714U, BN-VF733U).
The battery pack was used for a long period of time under extremely high/low temperature condition or charged too many times. Fully charge the battery and run it down to reset the power indication.
The camcorder does not turn on. The battery pack charge is low. Charge the battery pack or connect the AC adapter.
When using the camcorder, the POWER/CHARGE lamp blinks. The battery pack is not attached correctly. Re-attach the battery pack.
COMMUNICATION ERROR appears when checking battery status. There may be a problem with the battery. Consult your nearest JVC dealer.
The memory card is not recognized. The memory card is not inserted correctly. Re-insert the memory card.
The memory card needs to be initialized. Initialize the memory card with the camcorder.
When connecting the camcorder to a PC with a USB hub, the PC operation is unstable. Compatibility issues between the hub and the PC. Connect the camcorder directly to the PC, not through the hub.
