Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power is supplied. Power not connected properly. Connect the AC Adapter securely.
Battery pack not attached firmly. Detach and re-attach the battery pack firmly.
Battery is dead. Replace with a fully charged one.
Recording cannot be performed. Tape's erase protection tab set to "SAVE". Set to "REC".
"TAPE END" appears. Replace with new cassette.
Cassette holder cover is open. Close the cassette holder cover.
Vertical lines appear when shooting in bright light. - This is not a malfunction.
Screen becomes red or black in direct sunlight. - This is not a malfunction.
Date/time does not appear during recording. "DATE/TIME" is set to "OFF". Set "DATE/TIME" to "ON".
LCD monitor or viewfinder indications blink. Effects and "DIS" functions selected together. Re-read sections covering Effects and "DIS".
Digital Zoom does not work. 32X optical zoom selected. Set "ZOOM" to "64X" or "900X".
VIDEO/MEMORY Switch set to "MEMORY". Set to "VIDEO".
Tape moving, but no picture during playback. TV not set to VIDEO mode. Set TV to appropriate mode or channel.
Cassette holder cover is open. Close the cassette holder cover.
Blocks of noise or blue screen during playback. Dirty video heads. Clean with an optional cleaning cassette.
Focus does not adjust automatically. Focus set to Manual mode. Set Focus to Auto mode.
Lens is dirty or covered with condensation. Clean the lens and check focus.
Snapshot mode cannot be used. Wide (16:9) mode selected. Disengage Wide mode.
Snapshot image color is strange. Light source issues or subject composition. Find a white subject and compose shot to include it.
Snapshot image is too dark. Shooting under backlit conditions. Press BACKLIGHT.
Snapshot image is too bright. Subject is too bright. Set to "SPOTLIGHT".
White Balance cannot be activated. Sepia or Monotone mode activated. Disengage Sepia/Monotone mode before setting White Balance.
Image shutter speed looks too slow. Shooting in dark with "GAIN UP" set to "AUTO". Set "GAIN UP" to "AGC" or "OFF".
POWER/CHARGE lamp not lit during charging. Extreme temperatures. Charge between 10°C to 35°C.
Battery pack not attached firmly. Detach and re-attach firmly.
"SET DATE/TIME!" appears. Date/time not set. Set the date/time.
Built-in clock battery depleted. Consult nearest JVC dealer for replacement.
Memory card files cannot be deleted. Files are protected. Remove protection and delete.
Black bar at bottom of printed image. - Record with "DIS" de-activated.
Camcorder does not operate via DV connector. DV cable plugged/unplugged with power on. Turn camcorder power off and on, then operate.
Images on LCD monitor dark or whitish. Low temperature or end of LCD life. Adjust brightness/angle; consult dealer if needed.
Colored bright spots on LCD/viewfinder. - Not a malfunction.
Cassette will not load properly. Low battery charge. Install a fully charged battery.
Memory card cannot be removed. - Push card a few more times.
No picture on LCD monitor. Viewfinder priority set to FINDER. Push viewfinder back or set priority to LCD.
LCD monitor brightness too dark. Adjust brightness.
Monitor tilted upward 180 degrees. Open monitor fully.
Error indication (01-04 or 06) appears. Malfunction. Consult nearest JVC dealer.
