Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible cause Solution
Recording not possible. Tape protection tab set to "SAVE". →Set the tape protection tab to "REC" (☞ 13).
"END OF TAPE" appears. →Use a new tape (☞ 13).
Cassette holder cover is open. →Close the cassette holder cover.
Vertical lines appear when filming a brightly lit subject. This is not a malfunction.
Screen turns red or black momentarily when filming under direct sunlight. This is not a malfunction.
Focus does not adjust automatically. Focus is set to Manual mode. →Adjust focus to automatic mode (☞ 24).
The lens is dirty or covered in condensation. →Clean the lens and check focus again (☞ 24).
Image appears to indicate shutter speed is too slow. When filming in darkness, the unit becomes very sensitive to light when "GAIN" is set to "AUTO". If you want the lighting to appear more natural, adjust "GAIN" to "AGC" or "OFF" (☞ 20).
Images appear dark or whitish on the LCD monitor. In low temperature locations, images darken due to LCD monitor characteristics. This is not a malfunction. →Adjust the brightness and angle of the LCD monitor (☞ 8, 13).
No image appears on the LCD monitor. LCD monitor brightness setting is too dark. →Adjust the LCD monitor brightness (☞ 13).
Aspect ratio is strange. →If the video aspect ratio is strange, change the setting to "16:9 OUTPUT" (☞ 21, 23).
No power. AC adapter not connected correctly. →Connect the AC adapter properly (☞ 11).
Battery not seated properly. →Remove and reinsert the battery so it is properly seated (☞ 11).
Battery is depleted. →Replace the depleted battery with a fully charged one (☞ 11).
