Getting Started:

  • Power: Charging the battery pack and using AC adapter.
  • Handling: Grip adjustment, viewfinder adjustment, shoulder strap attachment, tripod mounting.
  • Settings: Date/Time settings, Recording Mode setting (SP/LP).
  • Loading Cassette: Inserting and ejecting a Mini DV cassette.

Basic Recording:

  • Press the Recording Start/Stop button to begin recording.
  • Use the Power Zoom Lever for zooming.
  • Adjust display brightness as needed.

Basic Playback:

  • Set the power switch to PLAY to review recordings.
  • Use playback controls for normal, still, shuttle, and frame-by-frame playback.
  • Connect to TV/VCR for viewing.

Troubleshooting and error codes

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
32. The LCD monitor image is distorted. 32. During playback of the unrecorded portion, High-speed Search and still playback, LCD monitor indications appear distorted. This is not a defect. 32. —
33. Images on the LCD monitor are jittery. 33. The speaker volume is too great. 33. Turn the speaker volume down (pg. 18).
34. Blocks of noise appear during playback, or there is no playback picture and the screen becomes blue. 34. — 34. Clean the video heads with an optional cleaning cassette (pg. 64).
35. The LCD monitor, the viewfinder and the lens have become dirty (ex. fingerprints). 35. — 35. Wipe them gently with soft cloth. Wiping strongly can cause damage (pg. 57).
36. An unusual mark appears. 36. — 36. Check the section of the manual that explains LCD monitor/viewfinder indications (pg. 60 – 62).
37. An error indication (E01 — E06) appears. 37. A malfunction of some kind has occurred. In this case the camcorder's functions become unusable. 37. • Remove the power supply (battery pack, etc.) and wait a few minutes for the indication to clear. When it does, you can resume using the camcorder.
If the indication remains even though you repeat the above two or three times, please consult your nearest JVC dealer.
38. The charger indicator on the camcorder does not light. 38. • The temperature of the battery is extremely high/ low.
• Charging is difficult in places subject to extremely high/low temperatures.
38. • To protect the battery, it is recommended to charge it in places with a temperature of 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 95°F) (pg. 63).
39. When the image is printed from the printer, a black bar appears at the bottom of the screen. 39. This is not a malfunction. 39. By recording with “DIS” activated (pg. 32) this can be avoided.
40. When the camcorder is connected via the DV connector, the camcorder does not operate. 40. • The DV cable was plugged/ unplugged with power turned on. 40. Turn the camcorder's power off and on again, then operate it.
