Shooting Tips

  • Basic Way to Hold a Camcorder: For stable images, stand with feet shoulder-width apart, hold the camcorder with your right hand close to your side, and support the LCD with your left hand.
  • Extending Your Hands to Shoot: Useful for capturing subjects behind crowds.
  • Squatting and Shooting at Eye Level: Kneel for better angles when shooting children.
  • Panning: Rotate your body to follow a subject smoothly.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Battery Pack
Unable to turn on the power when using the battery pack.
Recharge the battery pack.
Check terminals for dirt.
Use only JVC battery packs.
Short usage time even after charging. Battery may be deteriorated. Replace with a new one.
Unable to charge the battery pack. Check terminals for dirt.
Use only an original AC adapter.
The remaining battery display is not correct. May occur in high/low temperatures or after repeated charging.
Recording
Recording cannot be performed.
Check the / Button.
Adjust settings manually if Intelligent Auto fails (e.g., focus).
Recording stops automatically. Unit may stop after 12 hours or if temperature rises. Turn off and on again.
The continuous shooting speed of still images is slow. May happen with repeated use, depending on SD card or recording conditions.
The focus is not adjusted automatically. Adjust focus manually in dark places or low contrast subjects.
Wipe lens with a cleaning cloth.
Cancel manual focus.
Zoom does not work. Digital zoom is not available in still image mode or time-lapse recording. Set "ZOOM" in the menu.
Mosaic-type noise occurs when recording scenes with fast movements or extreme changes in brightness. Set "VIDEO QUALITY" to "UXP" or "XP".
Vertical lines appear on recorded images. This is normal when shooting subjects illuminated by bright light.
A rattling sound is heard when turning on the power. This is the sound of the image stabilizer starting; not a malfunction.
Card
Cannot insert the SD card.
Ensure it is inserted in the correct direction.
Unable to copy to SD card. Format the SD card using "FORMAT SD CARD" if used on other devices.
Playback
Sound or video is interrupted.
May occur between scenes; not a malfunction.
There is no sound. Turn off "SILENT MODE" or set "OPERATION SOUND" to "ON".
No audio is recorded in HIGH SPEED RECORDING/TIME-LAPSE RECORDING.
The same image is displayed for a long time. Use a high speed SD card (Class 4 or higher).
Clean SD card terminals.
Format the SD card.
The motion is choppy. Use a high speed SD card (Class 4 or higher).

Verify computer system requirements for playback.
Cannot find a recorded file. Cancel date search or use "PLAYBACK OTHER FILE".

When connected via HDMI, proper images and sounds are not output. Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable. Turn the unit off and on again.
Other Problems
Buttons on touch screen do not work.
Tap with fingers or stylus, not fingernails or gloves.
The image is grainy. Occurs when using digital zoom.
This unit heats up. Normal operation; stop if it gets too warm.
The language on the display changed. May occur when connecting to TV via HDMI mini cable.
When connected to TV via HDMI mini cable, proper images and sounds are not output. Disconnect and reconnect HDMI cable. Turn unit off and on again.
HDMI-CEC functions do not work properly. Set "HDMI CONTROL" to "OFF".
Unit operates slowly. Copy files to computer and erase them from unit.
Remote control does not work. Replace remote battery.
Set "REMOTE" to "ON". May not work in bright light.
Unit does not function properly and error messages appear. Turn off unit, remove AC adapter and battery pack to reset. Back up data.
Error Message?
SET DATE/TIME!
Connect AC adapter, charge for 24+ hours, and set clock. If message persists, clock battery may be dead.
COMMUNICATION ERROR Reconnect USB cable. Turn devices off/on. Reattach battery pack.
MEMORY CARD ERROR! Check card compatibility. Turn unit off/on. Remove/re-insert SD card. Clean terminals. Format SD card if problem persists.
NOT FORMATTED Select "OK" then "YES" to format.
RECORDING FAILURE Turn off and on again.
CANNOT TAKE MORE STILL IMAGES AT THIS TIME Stop video recording before taking stills. Re-insert SD card if removed during video.
PLAYBACK FAILED Re-insert SD card. Clean terminals. Insert SD card before power on. Avoid strong impact/vibration.
VIDEO MANAGEMENT FILE IS DAMAGED... Select "OK" to restore.
UNSUPPORTED SCENE! / UNSUPPORTED FILE! Use files recorded with this unit.
THIS FILE IS PROTECTED Turn off "PROTECT/CANCEL" function.
CHECK CARD'S WRITE PROTECTION SWITCH Set the write protect switch to off.
INSUFFICIENT AVAILABLE SPACE Delete files or move files to a computer.
RECORDABLE MANAGEMENT CAPACITY LEVEL HAS BEEN REACHED Move files to computer, format SD card.
SCENE QUANTITY EXCEEDED LIMIT Move files to computer, format SD card.
NUMBER OF FOLDERS OVERFLOW Move files to computer, format SD card.
FILE QUANTITY LIMIT EXCEEDED Move files to computer, format SD card.
PLAYLIST QUANTITY EXCEEDS LIMIT Reduce playlist to 99 files or less.
CANCELLED BECAUSE PLAYLIST AMOUNT EXCEEDED MAXIMUM LIMIT Reduce playlists or videos per playlist.
PROCESSING CANCELLED DUE TO LIMITED SPACE FOR OPERATION Reduce number of videos to add to playlist.
RECORDING CANCELLED Turn off and on again. Protect from vibration/shock.
CAMERA TEMPERATURE IS HIGH PLEASE TURN CAMERA OFF TO ALLOW IT TO COOL DOWN PLEASE WAIT Turn off unit, let it cool down.
CAMERA TEMPERATURE IS TOO HIGH, POWER WILL TURN OFF TO PROTECT THE CAMERA Normal operation. REC light turns yellow when temperature rises.
POWER IS OFF, OR USB DEVICE IS UNSUPPORTED Turn on USB device. Connect AC adapter to DVD/BD writer.
INSERT DISC Check and reset disc, then close tray. Replace disc.
CHANGE DISC Check and reset disc, then close tray. Replace disc.
