Basic Operation:

Charging the Battery Pack:

Connect the AC adapter to the camcorder and a power outlet. The charging lamp indicates charging status.

Recording Video:

Open the lens cover and LCD monitor. Check if the mode is Intelligent Auto (i.A.). Press the START/STOP button to begin recording and again to stop.

Playback:

Open the LCD monitor to access playback mode. Use the directional buttons to navigate and select videos for playback.

Inserting an SD Card:

Ensure the camcorder is off. Open the cover, insert the SD card with the label facing outward.

Basic Settings:

Set the clock and display language via the MENU button and on-screen options.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
Cannot insert the SD card. Make sure not to insert the card in the wrong direction.
Unable to copy to SD card. Perform media settings. Format the card if it was used on other devices.
Sound or video is interrupted. Playback may be interrupted at connecting sections between scenes. This is not a malfunction.
The same image is displayed for a long time. Replace the SD card or format it. Verify PC system requirements for playback.
The motion is choppy. Replace the SD card or format it. Verify PC system requirements for playback.
Cannot find a recorded file. Cancel date search. Check "REC MEDIA SETTING". Select "PLAYBACK OTHER FILE" if management information is damaged.
No date/time display. Set "ON-SCREEN DISPLAY" and "DISPLAY ON TV" settings accordingly.
Images do not appear on the TV properly. Disconnect and reconnect HDMI cable. Turn the unit off and on again.
Images are projected vertically on the TV. Set "VIDEO OUTPUT" to "4:3". Adjust TV screen accordingly.
The image displayed on TV is too small. Set "VIDEO OUTPUT" to "16:9".
When connected to the TV via the HDMI mini cable, proper images and sounds are not output. Disconnect and reconnect HDMI cable. Turn the unit off and on again.

The focus is not adjusted automatically. Adjust focus manually in dark or low-contrast conditions. Clean the lens. Cancel manual focus.
Zoom does not work. Zoom is unavailable in time-lapse recording. Set "ZOOM" to "80x/DIGITAL" or "200x/DIGITAL".
Mosaic-type noise occurs when recording scenes with fast movements or extreme changes in brightness. Set "VIDEO QUALITY" to "LS" or "LE" (GZ-HM30/GZ-HM50), or "UXP" or "XP" (GZ-HM430).
Vertical lines appear on recorded images. This occurs when shooting bright light and is not a malfunction.
The LCD monitor is difficult to see. It may be difficult to see in bright areas or under direct sunlight.
A band or a ball of bright light appears on the LCD monitor. Change the unit's direction to avoid the light source.
The recorded subject is too dark. Use backlight compensation, "NIGHTALIVE" scene select, "GAIN UP", or adjust "BRIGHTNESS ADJUST" to '+'.
The recorded subject is too bright. Set "BACKLIGHT COMP." to "OFF" or adjust "BRIGHTNESS ADJUST" to '-'.
The color looks strange. (Too bluish, too reddish, etc.) Wait for natural colors to adjust. Adjust "WHITE BALANCE" to "MANUAL" (FINE/CLOUD/HALOGEN) or "MWB".
The color looks different. Adjust "WHITE BALANCE" to "MANUAL" (FINE/CLOUD/HALOGEN) or "MWB". Ensure "x.v.Color" is set to "ON" on the TV if the camcorder setting is "ON".
There are bright or dark spots on the screen. This is a normal characteristic of LCDs and does not affect recording.
The image is grainy. Digital zoom enlarges the image digitally, which can make it grainy.
This unit heats up. It may become warm during extended use; this is not a malfunction.
The language on the display changed. May occur when connecting to a TV with a different language setting via HDMI mini cable.
HDMI-CEC functions do not work properly, and the TV does not work in conjunction with this unit. Set "HDMI CONTROL" to "OFF".
The unit operates slowly when switching between modes, or when switching the power on or off. Copy files to a computer and erase them from the unit. Make a backup of important recorded data.

THIS FILE IS PROTECTED Switch off the "PROTECT/CANCEL" function.
CHECK CARD'S WRITE PROTECTION SWITCH Set the write protect switch of the SD card to off.
INSUFFICIENT AVAILABLE SPACE Delete files, move files to a computer, or replace the SD card. Ensure sufficient free space for seamless video combining.
MAXIMUM QUANTITY RECORDING FOLDERS/FILES HAS BEEN REACHED Move files to a computer or format the media.
SCENE QUANTITY EXCEEDED LIMIT Move files to a computer or format the media.
NUMBER OF FOLDERS OVERFLOW Move files to a computer or format the media.
FILE QUANTITY LIMIT EXCEEDED Move files to a computer or format the media.
CAMERA TEMPERATURE IS TOO COLD KEEP CAMERA POWER ON PLEASE WAIT Keep the unit on to warm up. If the message persists, move to a warm place and try again later.
NO FILES Check "REC MEDIA SETTING".
