Troubleshooting and error codes

Category Problem Solution
Battery Pack Unable to turn on the power when using the battery pack. Recharge the battery pack. If the terminal is dirty, wipe it. Use JVC battery packs.
Battery Pack Short usage time even after charging. Battery may be deteriorating. Replace the battery pack.
Battery Pack Unable to charge the battery pack. When fully charged, the lamp does not flash. If the terminal is dirty, wipe it. Use original battery packs.
Battery Pack The remaining battery display is not correct. May not be displayed correctly when AC adapter is connected, or after prolonged use in extreme temperatures, or with repeated charging.
Recording Recording cannot be performed. Check the recording mode switch. Set to recording mode with the (Play) Button.
Recording Recording stops automatically. Stops after 12 consecutive hours or if the unit overheats to protect the circuit. Wait and restart.
Recording The continuous shooting speed of still images is slow. May be due to repeated use, SD card, or recording conditions.
Recording The focus is not adjusted automatically. Adjust focus manually in dark or low-contrast scenes. Clean the lens. Cancel manual focus if needed.
Recording Digital zoom does not work. Digital zoom is not available in still image mode or time-lapse shooting. Check ZOOM setting in the menu.
Card Cannot insert the microSD card. Ensure it is inserted in the correct direction.
Card Unable to copy to microSD card. Set media settings correctly. Format the card if it was used on other devices.
Playback Sound or video is interrupted. Interruption at connecting sections between scenes is normal.
Playback The same image is displayed for a long time. Replace the microSD card. Execute "FORMAT SD CARD" in media settings.
Playback The motion is choppy. Replace the microSD card. Execute "FORMAT SD CARD" in media settings.
Playback Cannot find a recorded video. Cancel group/date search. Check "REC MEDIA" settings. Select "PLAYBACK MPG FILE".
Playback No date/time display. Set "ON-SCREEN DISPLAY" and "DISPLAY ON TV" settings.
Playback Images are projected vertically on the TV. Set "VIDEO OUTPUT" to "4:3". Adjust TV screen.
Playback The image displayed on TV is too small. Set "VIDEO OUTPUT" to "16:9".
Playback Unable to delete file. Protected files cannot be deleted. Release protection first.
Playback Unable to play back DVD with title. Title may not play back if connected to a DVD writer.
PC Unable to copy files to the PC's HDD. Connect USB correctly. Install "Everio MediaBrowser" software. Ensure enough free space on PC HDD. Still images cannot be recorded to disk using the software.
PC Unable to copy files to DVD with a PC. Requires a recordable DVD drive.
PC Cannot upload the file to YouTube. Check YouTube account. Uploads limited to 10 minutes. File format conversion for YouTube is not supported on this unit.
PC Cannot export the file to iTunes. Refer to the help file of "Everio MediaBrowser" software.
Screen/Image The LCD monitor is difficult to see. May be difficult to see in bright areas like direct sunlight.
Screen/Image A band or a ball of bright light appears on the LCD monitor. Change viewing direction to prevent light source from coming into view. This is not a malfunction.
Screen/Image The recorded subject is too dark. Use backlight compensation, "LIGHT", "NIGHT EYE", or "GAIN UP". Adjust "BRIGHTNESS ADJUST" to "+".
Screen/Image The recorded subject is too bright. Set backlight compensation to "OFF". Adjust "BRIGHTNESS ADJUST" to "-".
Screen/Image The color looks strange. Wait for natural colors. Set "WHITE BALANCE" to "MANUAL" and select appropriate preset or adjust "MWB".
Other Problems The slider and operation buttons do not work. Touch with fingers, not fingernails or gloves. Displays may not respond even if touched.
Other Problems The unit operates slowly when switching modes or power. Copy files to computer and erase from unit if many files are present.
Other Problems The image is grainy. Occurs when using digital zoom.
Other Problems The unit heats up. Normal operation. Unit may become warm with extended use.
Other Problems Make a backup of important recorded data Recommended to copy data to DVD or other media. JVC is not responsible for lost data.
Error Message? CHECK LENS COVER Open the lens cover.
Error Message? SET DATE/TIME! Connect AC adapter, charge battery, and set clock. If message persists, clock battery is exhausted.
Error Message? COMMUNICATION ERROR Reconnect USB cable. Turn unit and devices off/on. Reattach battery pack.
Error Message? FORMAT ERROR! Check procedure, perform again. Turn unit off/on.
Error Message? DATA DELETION ERROR Check procedure, perform again. Turn camcorder off/on.
Error Message? HDD ERROR! Turn unit off/on. If problem persists, back up files and format HDD.
Error Message? MEMORY CARD ERROR! Turn unit off/on. Remove and re-insert microSD card. Clean terminals. If problem persists, back up files and format SD CARD.
Error Message? NOT FORMATTED Select "OK", then "YES" to format.
Error Message? RECORDING FAILURE Turn unit off/on.
Error Message? CANNOT TAKE MORE STILL IMAGES AT THE MOMENT Stop video recording before taking still images. Adjust "VIDEO QUALITY" setting if it is "ECONOMY".
Error Message? VIDEO MANAGEMENT FILE IS DAMAGED, RECOVERY IS REQUIRED TO RECORD/PLAYBACK, RECOVER? Select "OK" to restore. Videos that cannot be restored may be playable with "PLAYBACK MPG FILE".
Error Message? UNSUPPORTED FILE! Use files recorded with this unit.
Error Message? THIS FILE IS PROTECTED Switch off "PROTECT/CANCEL" function in "EDIT" menu.
Error Message? POWER IS OFF, OR USB DEVICE IS UNSUPPORTED Turn on USB device. Connect AC adapter to DVD writer.
Error Message? INSUFFICIENT AVAILABLE SPACE Delete files, move files to PC, or replace microSD card.
Error Message? MAXIMUM QUANTITY RECORDING FOLDERS/FILES HAS BEEN REACHED Move files to PC, then select "FILE + MANAGEMENT NO" to format.
Error Message? NUMBER OF FOLDERS OVERFLOW Move files to PC, then select "FILE + MANAGEMENT NO" to format.
Error Message? FILE QUANTITY LIMIT EXCEEDED Move files to PC, then select "FILE + MANAGEMENT NO" to format.
Error Message? PLAYLIST QUANTITY EXCEEDS LIMIT Reduce playlist to 99 files or less.
Error Message? INSERT DISC/CHANGE DISC Check and reset DVD, or replace disc.
Error Message? CAMERA TEMPERATURE IS TOO COLD KEEP CAMERA POWER ON PLEASE WAIT Leave unit on in a warm place. If warning persists, move to a warm place and turn on again.
Error Message? NO FILES Check "REC MEDIA" settings.
Error Message? NO REGISTERED EVENT SCENES Set the event.
Error Message? NO REGISTERED SCENES IN PLAYLIST SOME SCENES MAY NOT PLAY BACK Delete playlist and create a new one.
