Setting up your TV

  • Connecting Cables: Connect aerial and VCR using provided diagrams. Ensure power cords are disconnected before connecting.
  • Woofer Unit (HV-36P38SUE only): Connect the woofer to the designated terminal and place it at least 20 cm away from the TV.
  • Initial Settings: Turn on the TV using the main power button. Follow on-screen prompts for language and country selection. Auto-program function scans and registers TV channels.
  • T-V LINK Functions: Connect a compatible VCR to the EXT-2 terminal for enhanced functionality.
  • Remote Control: Insert batteries and familiarize yourself with button functions for channel selection, volume adjustment, and menu navigation.
  • Teletext Function: Access teletext broadcasts by pressing the Text button.
  • ZOOM Function: Adjust screen size for optimal viewing with various aspect ratios.
  • Troubleshooting: Refer to the guide for common issues like no picture/sound, poor picture quality, or remote control problems.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
If you cannot turn on the TV Is the mains plug connected to the mains outlet? Check connection.
Is the power lamp lit? If not, press the main power button. Press the main power button.
Make sure you set the VCR/TV/DVD switch to the TV position. Set to TV position. Cannot turn on when set to VCR or DVD.
If you cannot turn off the TV Make sure you set the VCR/TV/DVD switch to the TV position. Set to TV position. Cannot turn off when set to VCR or DVD.
No picture or no sound Have you chosen a TV channel with very poor reception? BLUE BACK function may be activated. Change setting to OFF.
Is the SYSTEM setting for a TV channel incorrect? Use EDIT/MANUAL function to try to change the SYSTEM setting.
Poor picture Problem with the aerial or aerial cable. Check aerial connection, cable for damage, direction, and aerial condition.
Interference from other equipment. Move equipment causing interference away from TV or move the TV.
Interference from signals reflecting from mountains or buildings (double-pictures). Change aerial direction or use one with better directionality.
Incorrect COLOUR SYSTEM settings. Check and adjust COLOUR SYSTEM.
Incorrect COLOUR and BRIGHT settings. Adjust BRIGHT and COLOUR settings.
White/bright image displayed. This is normal and due to the nature of the picture tube.
When viewing images from commercially available video software products, or videos from videotapes which have been recorded improperly Top of the image may be distorted. This is due to the condition of the video signal, not the TV.
Motion may appear unnatural with 625p progressive-scanning component signals. Change output setting of connected device to 625i interlace-scanning component signal. Refer to device instructions.
Poor sound Have you adjusted BASS or TREBLE properly? Follow description for BASS or TREBLE.
TV channel reception is poor, hard to hear stereo or bilingual sound. Change STEREO / I • II to mono sound.
If the TV does not respond to the remote control Remote control batteries worn out? Replace with new batteries.
Attempted to use remote control from sides, rear, or more than seven metres away. Use in front of TV and within seven metres.
Viewing a teletext programme. Cannot operate menus. Press TV button to return to ordinary TV programme.
If the TV suddenly stops responding Press main power button to turn TV off and then on again.
Other issues SLEEP TIMER function operates. Press /I (standby) button to turn TV on.
Wide-screen signal (WSS) or signal from external device affecting screen size. ZOOM mode automatically changes. Press ZOOM button again to resume previous mode.
Magnetised equipment near TV. Keep equipment away from TV. Use magnetically-shielded speakers.
Picture may be tilted due to Earth's magnetic field. Use PICTURE TILT function to correct.
Short delay before image displayed after operation. This is normal, time for image to stabilize.
Crackling sound due to temperature change. May be normal. If frequent, ask service technician.
Slight electric shock from static electricity. Unavoidable, not a problem. Static discharge is not harmful.
When set to 2-pictures multi, headphone sound issue. Adjust headphone sound with HEADPHONE VOLUME in the SOUND menu.
