Using the Integrated Amplifier
Control volume, bass, and treble using front panel knobs or the remote. Mute sound quickly with the MUTE button. Enhance low-volume listening with the LOUDNESS function. Bypass tone controls and surround circuitry for purer sound with LINE STRAIGHT. Activate/deactivate speakers using the SPEAKERS button. Adjust speaker balance between left and right channels using the BALANCE buttons.
Using the Tuner
Tune to stations automatically or manually. Store up to 30 favorite stations using the MEMORY button and access them with P.CALL or number buttons.
Using the CD Player
Load CDs and play them from the beginning or a specific track. Program custom track sequences. Utilize repeat play (single track, all tracks, or programmed tracks) and random play. Use the timer function to play CDs at a scheduled time.
Using the Cassette Deck
Play tapes, fast-wind, and use relay play. Find specific tracks with DPSS. Record tapes from various sources like CD, tuner, or records. Copy tapes (dubbing) at normal or high speed.
Troubleshooting and error codes

| No sound when the PLAY button is pressed | • Check tape is not blank. • Ensure tape is wound properly. • Check audio cables are connected properly. • Ensure cassette well door is closed. • Wait 3 seconds after closing door/powering on before pressing buttons. • Check tape isn't fully wound to the end; change direction if needed. • Ensure tape is wound properly in cassette case. |
| Track-finding function doesn't work | • Ensure 4-second blank spaces between tracks. • Ensure cassette well door is completely closed. |
| Automatic recording doesn't work | • Check recording-activation tabs on tape are present. • Ensure CD player has a CD. • Check CD is not cracked or dirty. • Check system control cables are plugged in. |
| The cassette well door doesn't open when the EJECT button is pressed | • Ensure player is in STOP mode. |
| Recordings sound dull or distorted | • Set recording level appropriately (see page 40). • Ensure Dolby Noise Reduction is not activated for tapes without it. • Clean tape heads (see page 36). |
| Pressing the REC/ARM button doesn't start recording | • Check recording-activation tabs on tape are present. • Ensure cassette well door is completely closed. • Check amplifier input is not set to TAPE. • Ensure recording level is not set to minimum. • Check tape isn't fully wound to the end. |
| Tape noise (hiss) level is high | • Select appropriate Dolby Noise Reduction for playback. • Re-record tape at a higher level if recorded too low. • Demagnetize tape head (see page 36). |
| Sound is 'sour', with unstable pitch | • Clean tape heads (see page 36). • Ensure tape is wound properly in cassette case. |
| Tape automatically plays or records when power is turned ON | • Ensure TIMER switch is OFF. |
