Open the back cover by pulling out and twisting the lock keys.
Install the new film cartridge in the left chamber and the take-up spool in the right.
Fix the film leader tip into the take-up spool, ensuring perforations engage sprocket teeth.

Set the frame counter to "0".
Basic Shooting:
Determine appropriate aperture and shutter speed using the built-in meter (Kiev-4) or an external meter/calculator (Kiev-4a).
Cocking the shutter is done by turning the advance knob.
Select shutter speed using the speed selection knob. For exposures longer than 1/2 sec, use "B".
Set the aperture by turning the aperture ring.
Focus by coinciding images in the rangefinder or by using the distance scale.
Compose the image through the viewfinder.
Release the shutter smoothly by pressing the shutter release button.
Using the Self-timer:
Turn the self-timer lever counter-clockwise to the stop.
It is recommended to set shutter speed before engaging the self-timer.
Rewinding Film:
When "36" is reached on the frame counter, stop shooting.
Cap the lens, press the film rewind button, and turn the rewind knob in the direction of its arrow until resistance is felt.
