Cooking with Your Cooktop

Flame Control: Adjust flame size to match your cookware. High flame for boiling, medium for frying/sautéing, low for simmering/warming.

Cookware: Use flat-bottomed, straight-sided cookware with a well-fitting lid. Avoid rough finishes. Aluminum and copper may leave marks.

Canning: Alternate burner use between batches. Center canner on grate. Do not place on two burners at once.

Griddle Use (KCGS9 models): Use center burner for best performance. Brush with oil. Do not use nonstick sprays.

CookShield™ Finish: Easy to clean stainless steel. Use a soft cloth and warm soapy water.

Troubleshooting and error codes

If you experience Recommended Solutions
Nothing will operate Check power supply cord is plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet. Replace fuse or reset circuit breaker. Call electrician if problem continues. Ensure cooktop is properly connected to the gas supply. Contact service technician.
Burners will not operate For first-time use, turn on a burner knob to release air. Ensure knob is pushed in before turning. Check for clogged burner ports or dirty igniter. Ensure burner base and caps are positioned correctly.
Burner flames are uneven, yellow and/or noisy Compare flame to illustrations. Call for service if flame looks like A. Normal flames are B or C. If using LP gas, conversion may be improper. Check for clogged burner ports or dirty igniter. Ensure burner caps are positioned correctly.
When a knob is pushed, all burners spark Sparking/clicking of all burners is normal. Burner lights when knob is pushed and turned.
Burner is making a popping noise If burner is wet or dirty, clean and/or let it dry.
Excessive heat around the cookware on cooktop Ensure cookware size matches cooking area. Cookware should not extend more than 1/2" (13 mm) outside the cooking area. Adjust flame so it doesn't wrap around cookware.
Cooking results are not what expected Check cookware type. Check heat level. Check cooktop level. Ensure correct gas supply (LP or Natural). Check regulator and line pressure.
Flame too High or too Low Ensure cooktop gas supply is correct (LP or Natural gas). Check installation instructions for regulator and line pressure.
