Warranty Information

KitchenAid offers a 1-year limited warranty on parts and labor, with extended coverage for the cavity liner and sealed refrigeration system.

Refrigerator Operation

  • Ensure the refrigerator is plugged into a grounded 3-prong outlet and the outlet is working.
  • Check household fuses or circuit breakers.
  • Verify that the refrigerator controls are turned on.
  • Allow 24 hours for a new installation for the refrigerator to cool completely.
  • The motor may run longer in a new unit due to high-efficiency components, warmer room temperatures, large food loads, or frequent door openings.

Ice Maker and Ice Storage Bin

  • Flush the water system before turning on the ice maker.
  • The ice maker has an automatic shutoff when the bin is full.
  • To manually turn off the ice maker, press OPTIONS and then ICE MAKER.
  • To remove the ice storage bin, press the release button and pull out.

Water Dispenser

  • Dispense at least 1 qt (1 L) of water weekly.
  • Standard dispensing: Press a glass against the lever.
  • Measured Fill: Press MEASURED FILL to activate, select volume (oz, cups, liters), and dispense.
  • Calibrate Measured Fill by following on-screen prompts with a measuring cup.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Issue Possible Cause Solution
The refrigerator will not operate Power cord unplugged? Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.
Is outlet working? Plug in a lamp to see if the outlet is working.
Household fuse blown or circuit breaker tripped? Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. If the problem continues, call an electrician.
Are controls on? Make sure the refrigerator controls are on. See "Using the Control(s)."
New installation? Allow 24 hours following installation for the refrigerator to cool completely.
The motor seems to run too much High-efficiency compressor/fans, warm room, large food load, frequent door openings, doors left open. This is normal for new units and under certain conditions.
The refrigerator seems noisy Buzzing, Pulsating, Hissing/Rattling, Sizzling/Gurgling, Popping, Water running, Creaking/Cracking These are normal operating sounds with explanations provided.
The doors will not close completely Door blocked open? Move food packages away from door.
Bin or shelf in the way? Push bin or shelf back into the correct position.
The doors are difficult to open Gaskets dirty or sticky? Clean gaskets and contact surfaces with mild soap and warm water. Rinse and dry with soft cloth.
Temperature is too warm New installation? Allow 24 hours for the refrigerator to cool completely.
Door(s) opened often or left open? Minimize door openings and keep doors fully closed.
Large load of food added? Allow several hours for the refrigerator to return to normal temperature.
Controls set correctly? Adjust controls a setting colder. Check temperature in 24 hours.
Temperature is too cold in refrigerator Refrigerator air vent blocked? Move items away from the air vent.
Ice storage bin in correct position? See "Ice Maker and Ice Storage Bin."
Controls set correctly? Adjust controls a setting warmer. Check temperature in 24 hours.
There is interior moisture buildup Humid room? Door(s) opened often or left open? Normal. Minimize door openings and keep doors closed.
The ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice Refrigerator connected to water supply and valve open? Kink in water line? Ice maker turned on? New installation? Door closed completely? Large amount of ice recently removed? Ice cube jammed? Water filter installed? Reverse osmosis system connected? Check connections, straighten line, ensure ice maker is on, wait for production, close door, allow time for production, remove jam with plastic utensil, test with/without filter, check water pressure.
The ice cubes are hollow or small Low water pressure? Water shutoff valve not fully open? Kink in water line? Water filter installed? Reverse osmosis system connected? Check water pressure, valve, line, filter, and system. Call plumber if needed.
Off-taste, odor or gray color in the ice New plumbing connections? Ice stored too long? Odor transfer from food? Minerals in water? Water filter installed? Discard ice, wash bin, use airtight packaging, install filter, flush system.
The water and ice dispenser will not operate properly Refrigerator connected to water supply and valve open? Kink in water line? New installation? Water pressure at least 35 psi? Water filter installed? Measured fill feature not dispensing accurately? Refrigerator door closed completely? Recently removed doors? Reverse osmosis system connected? Check connections, line, flush system, check pressure, test filter, calibrate dispenser, ensure door is closed, check wire/tube assembly, check water pressure.
Water is leaking from the dispenser system Glass not held under dispenser long enough? New installation? Recently changed water filter? Hold glass longer, flush system, flush system.
Water from the dispenser is warm New installation? Recently dispensed large amount of water? Not recently dispensed? Refrigerator connected to cold water pipe? Allow 24 hours for water to cool, discard first glass if not recently used, ensure connection to cold water pipe.
