Using the microwave oven

Food can be defrosted, re-heated or cooked by entering a power setting and a time.
Deep frozen ready-made meals can be defrosted and then re-heated or cooked.
The microwave oven can also be used for other tasks, e.g. for proving dough, melting chocolate and butter, dissolving gelatine etc.

Types of operation

Microwave-Solo mode: Suitable for defrosting, re-heating and cooking.
Grill: Ideal for grilling thin cuts of meat, e.g. steak or sausages.
Combination mode - Microwave + Grill: Ideal for cooking and browning dishes with toppings. The microwave cooks the food and the grill browns it.
Automatic programmes: Three automatic defrosting programmes, two automatic cooking programmes, and two combination programmes. These programmes are weight dependent; you enter the weight of the food and the cooking time is calculated automatically.

Microwave power settings

There are 7 different microwave power settings. The higher the power setting, the more microwaves reach the food. For food that cannot be stirred or turned (e.g., a plated meal), use a lower power setting for even heat distribution.

Times for defrosting, reheating, cooking

The time required depends on the initial temperature of the food, its type and texture, the amount of food, and the shape and material of the container.

General rule: Allow approximately time and a half for double the quantity. For a smaller quantity, shorten the time but ensure food is cooked thoroughly.

Placing the container in the oven

Ideally, the container should be placed in the middle of the oven. Ensure dishes or food are not larger than the turntable.

Turntable

The turntable function starts automatically when the appliance is started. Food is cooked more evenly with the turntable in operation. It is best not to switch the turntable off unless a large dish blocks it. Stir or turn food during cooking for even heating.

Starting a process

Use the appropriate selector to choose the microwave power setting and time. Turn the power selector to the required setting. Lights up in the display and 0:00 flashes. Set the required time using the time selector (5 seconds to 60 minutes). Press START to begin. The interior lighting comes on. A programme can only start if the door is closed.

Interrupting a process / Re-starting a process

Press the Stop/C button or open the door to interrupt. The time stops counting down. To continue, close the door and press START. The process resumes.

Altering settings

If the microwave power setting is too high or low, or the time is too short or long, you can interrupt the process, select a new setting/time, and then press START to continue.

To cancel a process

Press the Stop/C button twice.

At the end of a process

An audible tone will sound, and the interior lighting will go out.

Problem	Possible Cause	Solution
The display does not light up	The time of day display has been switched off.	Press the ⌂ button twice.
	The display has been programmed to switch off at night time.	Refer to "Night time" section.
The turntable does not turn smoothly	The area underneath the roller ring is soiled.	Check and clean the area.
	The surfaces between the turntable and the carrier are not clean.	Remove any soiling.
Food is not adequately defrosted, heated or cooked at the end of the selected time	The correct power setting was not selected for the time set.	Lower power settings require longer times. Adjust as necessary.
	The process has been interrupted and not restarted.	Restart the process.
Strange noises are heard when the microwave oven is being used	The food is covered with aluminium foil.	Remove the foil.
	Crockery with a metallic finish is being used.	Refer to notes on suitable containers.
