9. Principles of operation

Descriptions of circuit operation

(1) Notes for turning the circuit breaker “ON / OFF"

  • When the circuit breaker is turned "ON", the power lamp (LED1), heater lamp (LED2), and blue indicators (LED10, 11) turn on after 1.5 seconds, and the hand dryer becomes ready.
  • The hand dryer will not operate before the power lamp turns on.
  • Do not insert hands until the power lamp is on to ensure correct sensor sensitivity.
  • When turned "OFF", the circuitry takes about 50 seconds to discharge voltage. Wait before maintenance.

(2) Hand detection and operation

  • Infrared sensors detect hands.
  • Blower motor turns on when hands are detected.
  • Operation continues as long as hands are detected, up to 30 seconds.
  • Operation resumes after hands are removed and reinserted if the 30-second limit is reached.

(3) Control of the heater

  • Heater turns ON with the blower motor.
  • Heater does not turn ON if the heater switch is OFF or if the room temperature is 89.6°F (32°C) or higher.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Error Mode Display Checkpoint Check Method and Remedy
Power
Heater
(Lamps do not light.)
Power supply voltage Check that approx. 120 V AC is supplied at both ends of the power cord connections on the terminal block.
If 120 V AC is not supplied, check:
1. Circuit breaker is ON.
2. Power cord is securely connected.
Power supply voltage on the power circuit board Check that approx. 120 V AC is supplied between TAB1 and TAB2 (orange) on the power circuit board.
If not supplied, check the following points:
  • Power supply voltage on the filter circuit board: Check TAB20 and TAB21 (white and black). If approx. 120 V AC is not supplied, check the circuit breaker's power supply voltage.
  • Check TAB22 and TAB23 (orange). If approx. 120 V AC is not supplied, replace the filter circuit board.
Connector dis-connection for the display circuit board Check if connector CN19 (display) or CN18 (control) is disconnected.
Connector discon-nection between the circuit boards Check if connector CN2 (power), CN5 (control), or CN30/CN31 (filter) is disconnected.
Malfunction of the control circuit board If no error found after above checks, replace the control circuit board.
Malfunction of the power circuit board If the hand dryer does not operate after replacing the control circuit board, replace the power circuit board.

Connector disconnection for the sensors Check connectors CN12 (JT-30S3R), CN15 (JT-30S2R, 2 locations), CN11 (JT-30S1R), CN7/CN8 (control).
Malfunction of the control circuit board If no error found, replace the control circuit board.

Motor malfunction Check if the motor is locked. Turn smoothly by hand.
Malfunction of the power circuit board If no error found, replace the power circuit board.
Power
Heater
Blower (assembly) malfunction Check for causes of motor overload (high voltage, objects disturbing motor).
Motor overload Check if motor lead wire connectors (black, white, red) are disconnected.

Malfunction of the power circuit board If no error found after blower replacement, replace the power circuit board.
Abnormal power supply voltage (Overvoltage/Undervoltage detection) Check for correct power supply voltage. Error occurs if approx. 170V AC or higher, or approx. 60V AC or lower. (Note: 170V AC+ may blow a current fuse on the power circuit board.)
