Connect to Coax Cable: Connect the "live" coax cable to the modem's COAX connector. Ensure a snug fit, using the provided wrench if necessary.

Power Up: Connect the supplied power cube to the power jack and an electrical outlet. Turn the unit ON using the ON/OFF button.

Activate Service: You may need to call your cable provider or activate online via a web browser. Follow your provider's instructions, using information from the label on the bottom of the modem/router if prompted.

Connect Devices: Use Ethernet cables to connect computers and other devices to the LAN ports. For wireless devices, use the WiFi network name (SSID) and password found on the bottom label or a custom one you set up.

Can't make an Internet connection right after installation?
  • Turn the MG8702 off for at least 8 seconds, then on.
  • Check all connections (power, coax, Ethernet). Ensure coax connection is tight.
  • Verify the power cube is in a live outlet and the Ethernet cable is secure.
  • Check if the coax cable is live by using it with a TV.
  • Confirm correct setup information was provided to the service provider.
  • Contact your cable service provider to ensure your Internet service is turned on.
MG8702 has been working, then stops working?
  • Turn the MG8702 off for at least 8 seconds, then on.
  • Check if the modem is getting power and the power button is on.
  • Inspect all MG8702 cables.
  • Check with your service provider for outages or service issues.
Internet service, but speed is disappointing?
  • Know your subscribed speed.
  • Test speed with a computer connected via Ethernet (ensure gigabit support).
  • If Ethernet speed is good, the issue might be wireless; re-read the Wireless Router section.
  • Some streaming services bottleneck at busy times; test during off-peak hours.
  • Connect the MG8702 nearer to the coax entry point to test home cabling.
  • If using a splitter, test without it or use a better splitter (1,000 MHz top frequency).
MG8702 not approved by cable service provider? Check the provider's list of certified modems at www.motorolanetwork.com/services.
Connected wirelessly, but connection is slow or dropping? Re-read the Wireless Router section.
Don't know MG8702's Wireless Network Name/SSID or Security Key/Password?
  • Default values are on the bottom label.
  • If changed, try to remember new values or check a connected wireless device.
  • Access the Configuration Manager (http://192.168.0.1) for info.
  • If all else fails, reset to factory defaults using the Reset button (hold for 10 seconds).
Wireless devices interfering with MG8702 router?
  • Place MG8702 away from interfering devices (Bluetooth, other WiFi).
  • Access Configuration Manager, go to Advanced > Wireless > Scan/Bridge.
  • Click ScanWirelessAPs to find less-used channels.
  • Select a less-used channel in Wireless Basic menu and Save.
