Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Cause/Solution
The camera is on but does not respond. Wait for recording to end. If the problem persists, turn the camera off. If it does not turn off, press the reset button (1) with a sharp-pointed object. Note that data currently being recorded will be lost.
The camera turns off without warning. The camera automatically turns off to save power (auto off function). The camera and battery may not work properly at low temperatures. The inside of the camera has become hot; leave it off until cooled.
The monitor is blank. The camera is connected to a computer. Time-lapse movie shooting is in progress.
The camera becomes hot. The camera may become hot when used for an extended period or in a hot environment; this is not a malfunction.
Images are blurred or out of focus. If Movie VR is set to On, change it to On (hybrid). Vibration reduction or autofocus may not work properly due to unexpected vibration.
Images of moving subjects or images captured while moving are skewed or partially distorted. This is the rolling shutter effect. Shooting using 4:3 (2M), 16:9 (2M), or 1:1 (2M) will reduce the effect.
