Basic Operation Summary

Radio Operation:

  • Power On: Depress the power switch.
  • Band Selection: Use the band changeover button for FM or AM.
  • Tuning: Use manual tuning, seek tuning (stops at next valid frequency), or scan tuning (stops for 5 seconds at each valid frequency). Preset scan automatically cycles through memorized stations.
  • Presets: Memorize up to 12 stations (6 FM, 6 AM) using the memory button and preset channel buttons.
  • Sensitivity: Adjust FM sensitivity with the DX-local switch.

Cassette Operation:

  • Insertion: Insert tape with the open section on the left.
  • Playback: Automatically starts upon insertion. Program indicator shows tape direction.
  • Program Changeover: Use the program changeover button for manual reverse or rely on auto-reverse.
  • Fast Forward/Rewind: Use the dedicated buttons. Tape reverses automatically at ends.
  • TPS (Tape Program Sensor): Seeks unrecorded/mute sections to start playback or repeat sections.
  • Dolby NR: Set the Dolby NR changeover button according to the tape.
  • Tape Type: Set the tape changeover button for CrO2/metal or normal tapes.
  • Stop/Eject: Depress the stop/eject button to stop playback and eject the tape.

Other Features:

  • Volume Control: Use the up/down buttons.
  • Balance/Fader: Use the joy-stick control for speaker balance.
  • Equalizer: Adjust sound with the 5-band graphic equalizer.
  • Loudness: Enhances bass and treble at low listening levels.
  • Sound Attenuator: Reduces sound by -20 dB without affecting volume.
  • Clock: Displays time and can be set using the time adjusting buttons.
  • Illumination: Dome light and panel illumination with dimmer function.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No sound Power amplifier protection circuit activated Check speaker connections and switch power off/on.
Erroneous frequency display Power connection issue Disconnect and reconnect power wires.
Deck operation incorrect Back up/deck wire not connected Connect the back up/deck wire.
Tape plays in "review" mode Initial tape insertion Depress Stop/Cassette Eject button to set to normal playback.
TPS system not operating correctly Short mute sections or quiet passages Ensure mute sections are at least 3 seconds long.
