First-time Operation

Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Inserting the Battery Pack: Slide latches to unlock and open the cover. Insert the battery pack until it fits securely, then close and lock the cover. Ensure the latch is securely locked to prevent the battery from falling out. Avoid touching terminals to prevent damage or malfunction.
  2. Attaching the stylus: Use the tether to attach the stylus to the computer's designated holes (A) to prevent loss. Do not pull the tether with excessive force.
  3. Opening the Display: Push and hold latch (A) and lift to open the display.
  4. Connecting to a power outlet: Connect the AC adaptor to the computer and a power outlet. Battery charging starts automatically. Do not disconnect the AC adaptor or switch on wireless until first-time operation is complete.
  5. Turning on the computer: Slide and hold the power switch until the power indicator lights. Avoid repeated or prolonged (4 seconds or longer) switching. Wait 10 seconds before turning on again after powering off. Do not perform certain operations (connecting/disconnecting AC adaptor, switching power, touching keyboard/touchpad/screen, closing display, switching wireless) until the drive indicator turns off.
  6. Select language and OS: Carefully choose your language and OS (32-bit or 64-bit) for Windows. This setting cannot be changed later without reinstalling Windows.
  7. Setup Windows: Follow on-screen instructions. The computer may restart several times. Wait for the Windows setup screen to appear. Use the touchpad to navigate. Setup takes approximately 5 minutes for Windows 8.1 and 20 minutes for Windows 7.
  8. Update the on-screen manual: Connect to the internet and double-click [Manual Selector] on the desktop to follow on-screen instructions.
  9. Create the recovery disc: Recommended before use to restore the factory default condition. Refer to the Reference Manual “Recovery Disc Creation Utility”.
