Quick Use Guide for Philips MX5600D

This guide helps you set up and enjoy your DVD movie experience with your Philips Home Cinema system.

Connections:

  • Connect speakers: Attach front speakers to subwoofer stands and rear speakers to mini stands. Connect speaker cables to the DVD system, matching colors.
  • Connect TV: Use one video connection (S-Video, Component, or Composite) depending on your TV's capabilities.
  • Connect antennas: Attach AM loop and FM antennas.
  • Connect power: Plug in the AC power cord.

Playing a Disc:

  1. Press DISC/MEDIA on the remote.
  2. Turn on the TV and select the correct Video In mode.
  3. Press OPEN-CLOSE on the DVD system, load a disc, and close the tray.
  4. Playback starts automatically. Use remote buttons for playback control and menu navigation.
  5. Press STOP to end playback.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
No power. Check AC power cord connection. Press STANDBY ON.
No picture. Refer to TV manual for correct Video In channel. Press DISC. Switch P-SCAN to 'OFF' if not using Progressive Scan TV.
Distorted or poor picture. Check video connection. If using S-Video and Component, signal defaults to S-Video. Refer to 'Video Output' page. Clean the disc. Set correct 'TV System' setting.
Completely distorted picture or black/white picture. Set the correct 'TV System' setting.
The aspect ratio of the screen cannot be changed even though you have set the TV display. Aspect ratio is fixed on the DVD disc; may not be changeable on all TVs.
No sound or distorted sound. Adjust volume. Replace speaker cables. Check speaker connections. Disconnect headphones. Press PLAY for normal mode. Select correct source (TV/AV or AUX).
The DVD system does not work. Disconnect power cord for a few minutes, reconnect, and try again.
The DVD player does not start playback. Insert readable disc with playback side down. Check disc type, color system, and region code. Check for scratches/smudges. Turn off setup menu. Change rating level. Allow system to dry if moisture condensed.
Cannot activate some features, such as Angles, Subtitles, or multi-language Audio. Features may not be available on the DVD. Changing sound or subtitle language may be prohibited.
There is no sound from the center and surround speakers. Ensure center and surround speakers are connected correctly. Select correct surround sound setting. Ensure source is recorded in surround sound (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.).
Radio reception is poor. Adjust antenna or connect external antenna. Increase distance from TV or VCR. Tune to correct frequency. Position antenna away from noise sources.
The remote control does not function properly. Select source before pressing function button. Reduce distance between remote and system. Replace batteries. Point remote directly at IR sensor. Check battery loading.
The timer is not working. Set clock correctly. Press and hold CLOCK TIMER.
The display panel is dark. Press DIM again.
Low hum or buzz sound. Place DVD system away from electrical devices causing interference.
